I think it's called klook, it's an app to book things in Tokyo, has anyone used it and is it a good idea?

Yes. It's perfectly fine! Used it in Tokyo too.

I think it’s particularly popular with Americans visiting Japan because I’ve read that a lot of them have issues with Japanese apps and websites rejecting US credit cards. As a result they can’t book things like attractions, trains and other transport directly with their credit cards. We had no problem booking things with UK visa and Mastercards, so never had any need for Klook. It seems to be generally well reviewed though.

Thanks for the feedback. How did you book things like attractions before you went? Could you do it all direct? Also I keep hearing about an travel card I can add to my phone but we've androids so I'm thinking I can just buy paper tickets as and when I need them for the underground.

I booked a 48-hour pass for transport and discounts in a town in Japan, and it was only available on Klook. It seemed a bit dodgy at first but it turned out to be fine.

We just booked directly on websites for things like train and long-distance bus tickets and any attractions that needed pre-booking. For Disney and universal we booked directly on their apps.

I loaded a Suica card onto my phone but some of our group were android users and we picked up an IC card for them in a station as soon as we could when we arrived. Definitely pick up a card when you get there. Don’t rely on buying individual tickets. It’s a pain. Unlike the London transport network, the Tokyo and Osaka systems are not one unified system. They are run by a mish-mash of companies. Unlike in London where a single journey ticket would cover your whole journey with any changes, in Tokyo and Osaka you might need 2 or more different tickets for a journey that involves changes. It’s worth taking 5 minutes to buy a card for the convenience of being able to tap and go everywhere you go.

Thanks that's useful to know about the cards, I'm guessing I need to get my kids an indervidual card as well. They will be 16 do counted as adults I guess.

Yes, get them a card. Adult fare in Tokyo applies to anyone 12 and over, so they will be counted as adults.

Yes I used klook to book fast pass tickets for theme parks and also tours etc.

It works all over Japan not just Tokyo
Definitely get Suica/IC card you will all need one to travel easily in Japan as well as use them in the 7-11/family mart and vending machines.

They're so useful! But a shortage was happening when we were in Japan last May. So make sure you get one/have the app on your phone.
