Italy for a week in early April

Me and my two children fly to Pisa in early April for a week.

Thoughts on where to base ourselves and what to see in that time? Was thinking perhaps Lucca for the week OR lucca for a few days and then move to orvieto or siena???

Will be using the train to get around.

Any recommendations welcome plus a place near pisa airport for arrival night.

Thank you 😊 🙏

Italian trains are good, Lucca is beautiful but I would say keep moving and definitely go to Siena.

We stayed at Hotel terminus plaza in Pisa, I chose it as it was near the train station and we only stayed for 1 night and then went onwards to the Cinque terre. It was walking distance to the leaning tower etc. This was in 2018 though it's not recent experience.

How old are the children? Cinque Terre might make a nice contrast and not too busy.

Cinque Terre is lovely. Monterosso has the beach. Though early April the weather cannot be guaranteed. Genoa has aquarium etc.

Kids are both 12.5

Cinque Terra definitely appeals. Apparently, there's a ferry ride you can do up the coast to see the villages from the sea. I went to Riomaggiore when I was 19, so in 1991!!

Thanks for the suggestions and the hotel name. Will take a look.

Yes there are hop on hop off boats between four of the five villages and towns either end. Check when the winter timetable changes though, there is a local train otherwise.

We stayed at Hotel Vis a Vis in Sestri Levante the last time we went. At the other end of the price scale, we also have stayed in Residence Kris in Deiva Marina which is a family run aparthotel, close to the beach and the train station. Used trains and boats to get up and down the coast - Portofino at one end and Portovenere / Lerice at the other.
