Hey. Ryan air flight

I can't make sense of it online can you take a handbag or only the 40 x 25?

Thanks

Just the one bag if you're not paying anything extra.
Be careful, they were charging people extra even on the actual plane when I flew to Barcelona last September.

disneytouch · 01/02/2025 19:17

What were they charging on the actual plane!?

MIL got charged €70 last week as her bag was too big. But she brought a wheely cabin suitcase and didn't realise she wasn't allowed this size.

Rucksuck size only!

JackieGoodman · 01/02/2025 19:29

One bag only (unless you pay for more). We found it useful to buy a cheap purpose built perfect size bag from amazon.

NotNeil · 01/02/2025 19:35

Unless you have paid extra then it needs to be a bag that fits under the seat in front. Handbag is "usually" OK but it depends on the gate staff and how busy the plane is.

All airlines let you take a duty free bag as well, so worth hanging onto these from previous trips, or just pop your handbag into one when you have bought something duty-free.

NatMoz · 01/02/2025 19:35

For free you are basically allowed a little rucksack that has to fit underneath the seat in front.

There are 3 dimensions ... check ryanair website abd measure your bag. It's not rocket science!

Oriunda · 01/02/2025 20:26

If you want to take a trolley on board as well as handbag, select the cheapest option ie no luggage. Just before booking confirmation you’ll get offered the chance to add luggage again, but it’ll be cheaper than selecting at the start.

samarrange · 02/02/2025 00:41

Can you be a bit more precise with the exact dimensions of each bag that you are proposing to take on board? You need three numbers for each (length, width, depth), so "40 x 25" doesn't really mean very much. And "a handbag" could mean anything.

Also please say whether or not you have booked "Priority and 2 Cabin Bags" (which is the less-than-snappy name for "a wheely bag").

When Ryanair ground staff want to be really arsey, they check whether you have broken the seal on the duty free bag, and don't let you take anything that isn't booze or cigarettes that you bought in the shop. Officially you are not meant to open the bag until the plane lands at the destination. It doesn't happen too often but it does happen.

TeamGeriatric · 02/02/2025 06:19

I've always taken a small (paperback book sized) cross body 'handbag' as well a rucksack and Ryanair have never ever questioned it, and we often fly several times a year with them. That's just on a basic non-priority one cabin bag ticket. It's just handy to have passports more easily accessible. The bag would though fit inside my rucksack if staff were ever quibbled.

£75 if I recall correctly. We bought Amazon bags approved by Ryanair that fitted under the seat. You pay extra for anything that needs t go in the overhead locker, and if your luggage is deemed to be too big for that, they'll insist it goes in the hold, and that again, is an extra charge.

MrsPatrickDempsey · 02/02/2025 06:51

I have done exactly the same was the above poster and have never been questioned. We have flown Ryanair yesterday and there were really strict about luggage even measuring large rucksacks.

InfoSecInTheCity · 02/02/2025 09:00

I've paid the extra for a cabin bag, measured all our backpacks and they were all too big for Ryanair's definition and just really can't be bothered with any hassle on the day so it felt like a worthwhile investment to avoid having to deal with crap. I am not a people person 😂

disneytouch · 02/02/2025 12:54

I'm more asking for experiences of people that have flew with them thanks guys! I've always been jet2 and heard how strict they are but just want to do a short trip

OP, I have been told to stuff a small flat cross body passport / phone bag into my small underseat bag. And I saw someone last time I flew being charged for a cabin bag bigger than the tiny prescribed size.

The EasyJet ‘underseat’ bag is bigger than RyanAir but still small, and still no leeway for any additional bag.

No33 · 02/02/2025 13:09

If you want to take a handbag as well, it will need to fit in the 'small' bag as the picture shows.

Or get a small cross body and put it under your clothing.

Cross body bag under your coat.

Trumpton · 02/02/2025 13:22

I bought this bag £8.99 and vacuum bags £3.98 for my next trip. I always use easy jet off island but need to use Ryan Air to France next month. I would rather pack very light and not pay for cabin bag. I will take my cross body bag for passport and phone etc but make sure I can get it in the under seat bag if asked.

fab video on YouTube of a man wearing all his luggage in a specially designed coat. All 30kg of it! And , yes, it worked !

Don’t just think “rucksack” though. Almost all “standard / school / work” sized rucksacks are actually wider than the Ryanair allowance so do measure before you use.

Lilly11a · 02/02/2025 13:42

Usually if you can "wear" a handbag cross body style with your seatbelt on that's been fine + I bought an Adidas school bag rucksack type and put that underneath m

Managed a 3 day trip to Rome like that with t-shirts leggings pants and toiletries, just couldn't bring any other shoes, coats , jumpers (and made do with one bra )
