Has anyone been during this part of the year?
What's it like? Any recommendations? Looking for a last minute thing.

For us it was low twenties, windy and rained so much the hotel lobby flooded. We might've been unlucky though. Some days were pleasant, a bit like spring here. That was Lanzarote. It was ok though we hired a car and explored, the volcano, Cesar manrique foundation, there was some kind of festival going on in Teguise with traditional costumes and a parade etc which suited us, it wasn't pool/beach weather.

lemonki · 31/01/2025 22:37

Sounds stupid but I forgot about the possibility of rajn.
We've been through a tough time just now and I want somewhere easy to go to, to do very little apart from swim & read.
Any ideas much appreciated.

Cape Verde was always hot in Feb when we've been

Unrepentantfarter · 31/01/2025 22:56

Was a glorious 24-25 degrees and sunny when I went to Tenerife end of Jan.

Pinkapron · 31/01/2025 23:21

We’ve been going to Gran Canaria in Jan/Feb for about 10 yrs now, love it. It’s one of the less windy islands. What’s your budget? Hotel or s/c?

lemonki · 31/01/2025 23:33

Ok that sounds more encouraging! I prefer s/c usually but for once hotel is seeming very appealing. I just want my kids to switch off and enjoy themselves while I watch them.

We’re currently in Tenerife. Sunny and 22c. Occasionally breezy 😌

Pinkapron · 31/01/2025 23:37

How old are the kids?

DrFosterWentToGloucester23 · 31/01/2025 23:37

We often go to Tenerife in February half term. We’ve always had shorts and t-shirt weather. It’s a very easy holiday. 🙂

murasaki · 31/01/2025 23:38

I went to Fuerteventura in Feb, around the 20th, i think. About 24, but high winds, I tanned while walking, t shirts and shorts, but the unheated pool was brutal! The sea up to thigh height less so, quote manageable but I wouldn't want to swim. Beautiful landscape, I liked it. Great food, not crowded, we did an air bnb.

murasaki · 31/01/2025 23:42

I still can't get over the fact that it cost more for two tomatoes from the local deli than for 4 slices of iberico ham sliced right in front of us, but to be fair they were the best tomatoes I've ever eaten.

TidyDancer · 31/01/2025 23:45

I've done Lanzarote in February. Was a few years ago now but it was decent warm-ish weather for all but two of the days we were there. Not boiling hot but quite nice in comparison to the UK weather this time of year!

murasaki · 31/01/2025 23:47

You'd want warmer clothing for the evening, but lovely in the day

Bjorkdidit · 01/02/2025 08:14

I think the south of Gran Canaria is your best bet for least risk of wind/cooler weather. Somewhere like Puerto de Mogan or west of the dunes in Maspalomas. But choose carefully for the latter, if your budget is buffet rather than a la carte AI, you'll probably have a nicer experience if you go SC/B&B and eat out in local restaurants.

worrisomeasset · 01/02/2025 09:03

We’ve been to Gran Canaria twice and Fuerteventura once during February half term. The weather each time was better than at home but wasn’t great. It hovered around the 20°, and could often feel cooler with cloud and wind. The evenings were chilly, we usually needed a couple of extra layers when going out. We’ve decided to not bother with the Canaries in February any more and will be going there at Easter instead.

FrenchandSaunders · 01/02/2025 09:06

We often go end of January for our wedding anniversary … usually part of adeje in Tenerife. Always been mid to low 20s, shirts and t shirts, swimming in pool. Greta time to escape UK weather and gloominess.

lemonki · 01/02/2025 09:58

These is great!! Thank you everyone.

I agree eating out locally is probably nicer and more my thing - but how pricey is it? Can you give me a rough idea so I can budget? Meal for 4 every night for 7 nights.

Thank you

We did Tenerife last two February half terms, year before last you needed a cardi after sunset as temp really dropped but gorgeous sunny low-mid 20s rest of the time. Food was cheap, loads of options, wine in Spain can’t be taxed, it’s super cheap! We preferred Puerto de la Cruz in the north to Adeje in the south although had a lovely time in both areas, definitely cheaper in the north.

Boope · 01/02/2025 14:53

I've been many times in February. It can be mid 20s and glorious but you can get the odd cloudy day or rain. It's much cooler at night, you need warmer clothes for evening.
They are all year round resorts though so plenty of choice. For two of us in a 4* hotel this year it was £2800 half board with Jet2.
@FrenchandSaunders same here. We got married in a quickie wedding in January 35 years ago and flew to Tenerife the same day and we often go back at this time of year.

Manchesterbythesea · 01/02/2025 14:55

Been to Lanzarote a couple of times in February. One time it was lovely and another time we had this Calima thing. Like a sandstorm. Not pool weather anyway. We went in December too and the weather was great. Jan/Feb are hit and miss I think.

fussychica · 01/02/2025 17:57

Calimas are becoming more common I think, we had one in Lanzarote in mid December, basically stuck inside for a couple of days as too unpleasant to be out in it.
Currently in Fuerteventura, winds have been pretty strong for the last couple of days but calmed down today. Temps around 20-23 by day and about 15 at night. We aren't sitting outside at all in the evening.

hellswelshy · 03/02/2025 10:17

I'm in Lanzarote right now. Forecast says 20/21 but in the sun out of the breeze it feels around 25. It has been windy, but I don't mind a breeze personally. Haven't needed a cardigan in the evenings but then I've only been inside the hotel at night. It's glorious right now, sunny, few little clouds and I can hear the sea from my balcony 😀

lemonki · 03/02/2025 15:29

Sounds perfect @hellswelshy !
