Do you go by reviews for your holidays?

Searching for holidays
I don't normally look at reviews but mum pointed out the reviews are m aren't very good.
Well that's because the first few you come across aren't very good but the places still have about 3.5 or mostly 4 stars overall so mostly good reviews.
But on closer inspection all the ones you look at have some bad reviews but again mostly ok/good star reviews overall.
I'm wondering if people just love to complain

Yes I look at reviews and traveller photos

Yes, I look at the over all number on trip advisor. Look at the reviews in the lowest two catergories to see if there is a common theme and then search for specific issues.

I’m another one who won’t book anything less than 4.5* and I read a mix of reviews to check if things important to me are mentioned. Also like others search terms like cocktail, cold pools, sunbeds to find out whether specific things will be an issue for me! I compare the traveller photos to the ones on the website to see what the hotel actually looks like as the ones on the website are always the most flattering.

My research is quite extensive but it means we usually end up in good places that suit us.

Ah well I might be slumming it compared to some on here! 😂😂

I always read the reviews and see what the complaints are about. Sometimes it’s people expecting 5 and paying for 3 in which case I take them with a pinch of salt. Or sometimes it’s people with a ridiculous complaint like they never contacted the hotel prior to arrival to say they wanted rooms next to each other and then making loads of complaints that this couldn’t be accommodated when they arrive. Again, I take those with a pinch of salt.

if there are consistent reports of terrible food, food poisoning, rude staff or the area not being safe I would take those on board and not book.

you just have to use your own judgment.
