Denia/Xabia areas? Can anyone recommend?

I’d like to stay in/around this area… had originally thought Xabia/Javea but it seems very big, with a large part to the south…

We’ll be hiring a villa but have 4 teenagers who would like to be close/walking distance to “stufff” shops/bars/beach/activities etc which makes a villa for 6 a little trickier to find. If anyone could recommend the sort of areas to be looking at then that would be great. Oh and I would like picturesque old town/marina walking distance if possible

basically, where are the “nice” accessible” bits? 🤣

Hi,
I used to live in Javea so know it very well.
the beach area is known as the Arenal. This is the more touristy area but where it will be best for the teenagers. There are bars and restaurants here and a nightclub. It’s all very up market though so not full of youngsters and a nice place for adults too. Then there is the Port and the Old Town. The Port I would suggest is a happy medium. The Arenal is about a 20-30min walk and there is a pebble beach. Lots of lovely tapas bars and some nice beach bars. The Old Town again lovely with cobbled streets and tapas bars.
It’s easy to get around as the whole area is not vast. There are some beautiful bays to visit for snorkelling too.
Denia is about 20mins away. It is a lot bigger. Much more of a big town whereas Javea is more a village. More Spanish and less touristy. The Marina is lovely for restaurants and then the old part of town has tapas alley. Denia encompasses a large area though so really you want to be near the Marina or Playa de les Marines if you want to be near the main town.
it’s harder to find villas within walking distance to the coast so maybe a large apartment or townhouse might be easier to find.
Denia and Javea are both wonderful places but with a totally different feel. Javea is smaller and more compact whereas Denia is a larger town.
I’m happy to help if I can as I still know lots of people there and also work in travel.

For teenagers Javea is definitely better but is much more English than Denia. It's very overcrowded midsummer, when were you planning to go?

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 27/01/2025 16:41

Javea sounds like it definitely fits the bill, thank you.

in the past we’ve done AI in Turkey and Portugal but as they are getting a bit older they need to roam a bit more…. Like feral cats really 🤣

The hunt for a luxury villa in that area a so hard, esp when we need 4 bedrooms…. Thinking 2 apartments might be easier, although I had thought having own pool and bbq area would be nice

thanks so much for the advice, anything else would be greatly appreciated

Javea is lovely! You will love it! If you do find a villa a little bit out taxis are easy. Don’t go as far out as Benitachell or Cumbre del Sol as that’s too hard for transport. Stay within a 1km distance of Arenal or Port/Old Town end.

Chocbuttonsandredwine · 28/01/2025 08:09

Im gonna get a map and draw a circle round those areas and start and plot: I’ve found a couple of amazing villas but they are just too far out: The kids would be insufferable 🤣

Oh let me know how you get on. In between the port and the arenal there are quite a few townhouses. Some of them are 4bed. That way the “kids” can walk to the beach end and you can walk to the Port end. Everyone’s a winner!

@Sunsandandcocktails
Could I ask you what the weather is like in that area in the winter please ? From the forecast it seems a lot cooler / wetter than Alicante, which surprised me.

I live in Javea. Join Javea Connect FB group (30k+ members) Post your desired villa requirements and see what comes up.Arenal, Adsubia & Tosalet are probably the best areas if you want the kids to be able to walk to the beach.
In my experience you will get many offers of accommodation.
The Arenal beach area does get very busy especially once the UK schools break up but it's lively and buzzing. Plenty for teenagers to do. I absolutely love living here

bert3400 · 29/01/2025 22:53

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea it can vary between 25c - 14c (Jan - Feb). It was a gorgeous 23c on Sunday...gets chilly at night

To be fair though in Jan/Feb it can also go down to maybe 2c at times!

@bert3400
Thank you so much - really helpful as that is warmer than my BBC forecast was indicating. I'm aware that it can get pretty cold at night, I'm used to travelling to Spain in the winter but not this area.

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea

BBC is always a bit pessimistic. Accu Weather is good has it gives you the real feel .
