Hi

Looking for any info on celiac friendly holidays suitable for kids and older ( 60s) group holiday - pool and beach please and Ideally no canteen style restaurants.
Also rooms separate from children.

I know, it's a lot, but it's for a 40th and 70th so I'm hoping someone can help ..

There are 3 hotels in Mallorca who cater for coeliacs really well but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. Let me text my friend and ask, I’ll be back!

What is your budget. What board are you looking for? Avoiding buffets comes at a high price typically

Mallorca is good for allergies and intolerances. Mercadona supermarket (several dotted about and believe they also deliver) has the best gluten free range and is inexpensive. Eroski has a good range too. They are very good with allergies across the island, but I’ve most recently been to Cala D’or. The internal Sa Marina has gluten free breakfast options (I think it is a buffet though!). Il Pizaretto does gf pizza.Indiana John’s, waves and don leone all have good options. The chef at Regina is coeliac and I seem to remember everything on the menu was GF. Most restaurants will have some options. Take your own gf pasta if you are doing any self catering. Other than that it’s readily available. I recommend getting allergy translation cards, they are cheap and readily available online.

There’s also the coeliacs eat abroad Facebook group.

Depending on your budget you might be better getting a villa. We wanted separate rooms as we have 2 kids and for 20% more than a 2 bed apartment we got a 4 bed villa. This was early summer so before uk school hols but in the Spanish school hols. No fighting over sunbeds and we got a private chef one night too.

I have a strong gluten allergy and spent a week in Majorca in 2023. I found it really allergy friendly. I didn’t get glutened once 🤗

I've stayed in Iberostar hotels and I noticed they are very hot on allergies and had dedicated gf sections.

I'm not sure what you mean by "no canteen style restaurants", but even at quite high-end places, most meals that are included in a room rate will be buffet-style. Unless you go for five-star with a la carte for everything (€25 for a Caesar salad, €30 for a burger, €140 fine dining tasting menu in the evening). Some good (high-end 4*) local chains are Iberostar (IHG group), Zafiro, and Hipotels.

Hotels in Spain are very good on gluten-free, and if you ask at reception when you check in, you may be able to ask to meet either the food and beverage manager or the head chef to discuss requirements. They can confirm, for example, that they have separate fryers for breaded things versus chips.

As for location, it depends how lively a town you want. For example, after dinner, do you want to sit with a coffee, or will some members of the party want to go out for live music/dancing? Do you want to do quite a lot of touring by car/coach/bus, or mostly stay in your resort area?

No 'canteen style restaurants' means the OP doesn't want to have her meals from a buffet, which is also my preference.

So they either need a la carte AI, which will be very expensive, but she doesn't mention a budget, or a villa, which could also be expensive, Mallorca is often a high priced destination - we do things at much lower cost, it's only DP and I, and we generally rent an apartment and combine eating out with easy food on the balcony or a BBQ if we have a terrace.

We swim in the sea so don't need a pool, but we often amuse ourselves when out and about by looking at the rental prices of the naice looking villas in spectacular locations, which can easily be £10k+ for the week.

But on the matter of gluten free, Spain does seem to be very good at this. A lot of supermarket food is marked as 'sin gluten' and restaurant menus have detailed allergy information.

Caveat I’ve not been but am going to Coma Gran in Sa Coma in the summer and they have been helpful on email about gluten free. They offer everything from self catering to all inc and do one and two bed apartments. I find it really hard to find 2 bed apartments and all inc without selling a kidney price so thought I’d share.

Spain is great for allergies / intolerances. You can always fall back on mcds 😂

Thanks so much everyone for taking the time to reply.

Re my canteen comment - I'm perfectly happy with a buffet. I'm a teacher and should have specified I was talking about a school canteen - mayhem, lots of queuing, lots of noise just not a nice environment for eating.
Really useful to know that celiacs can be catered for .
We definitely won't be going out dancing - normally stay in the resort if shows are on or a walk in the evening.

We won't do any touring either , would like to go see The Pirates show as have great memories from around 20 years ago but it's not a deal breaker.

Thanks again everyone, really helpful advice.

Also re budget, £4,000 for two adults and a child for a week is what we usually pay.
