Ever had an easyJet flight cancelled?

Basically we are booked on a flight Friday and there is a named storm with 60mph winds forecast all day where we are departing from...

Just wondering what we can expect from easyjet if that happens? Do you just hang about in the airport or do they put you in an hotel for the night? I'm aware it might change by then but I've got stuff to get sorted...

I've messaged easyJet but no response as yet.

I believe weather is not covered by the European Charter so you are on your own other than them rebooking you. Mine was cancelled one Christmas due to snow and we were told to go home and rebook. We finally got out a week later, but not everyone is flexible. This was a decade ago so legislation could be different.m

I used to live in an Easyjet destination so have a lot of experience of this. They will offer you a hotel or you can book your own and request reimbursement (but they won’t pay for luxury).

Doggymummar · 22/01/2025 08:45

That's great news, I'm flying with them next week.

Aintnobodygottime · 22/01/2025 08:46

Sorry, I’ve realised you’re asking about a cancellation on departure. No, they won’t put you up before you leave. You’ll just rebook via the app and turn up again at the new flight time.

Karneval25 · 22/01/2025 08:52

They would claim that a storm is outside their control so you would not get compensation.

They will point you to their app and ask you to rebook on the next available Easyjet flight or get a refund for the amount you paid. Depending on destination, the next available flight may not be the same day or even the following day.

If you are leaving from an airport near your home, you would be expected to return home in the case of an overnight delay. They will refund the travel cost home but not costs to the airport for the next flight.

If you are overseas and have to stay at the airport you have to pay upfront and then try to reclaim costs. Takes time and they will do anything they can to avoid paying.

IME their staff usually disappear in these circumstances.

Yes it's on you to rebook with them or another carrier. And to be on the ball as everyone will be scrambling for those flights. I would check out alternative flight options beforehand. The money from original flight should be refunded, maybe some costs eg taxi home? but no compensation

No, we are away from home at the moment and flying back on Friday.

If you’re rebooking you don’t need to pay again or any extra for a different flight. Unless you ask for a refund - then you’re basically starting again.
I’ve known them book hotels for people stranded trying to get home. I think a lot depends on where that happens. In my case people were stuck IN the UK and the ground staff were helpful. No doubt it will vary.

Ah, OK, then as I said initially. Hopefully you’ll get good ground staff if your flight is disrupted. If you do end up needing to book your own accommodation and reclaim, keep your costs as low as possible!

Their website tells you the procedure they should follow. www.easyjet.com/en/help/boarding-and-flying/delays-and-cancellations

I got my refund on my flight within 24 hours. Had to pay for the hotel myself.

We were affected by snowfall at lgw one year. Cancelled in early hours of the morning before flight. Offered to rebook or refund. We took refund as only available flights would have made trip too short to be worthwhile.

Our early evening flight last year was cancelled (not weather related, though), and we did get reimbursed for having to travel to Gatwick, an overnight stay in a Premier Inn, and (very expensive) internal flights, once we reached our destination country (but not city). The only part they sorted for us was the flight from Gatwick to the destination country the next day, which was the best option available for our relatively short break, as there wasn’t another flight from our original airport for several days. Everything else - travel to Gatwick, hotel, and onward flights once in the country, had to be booked by us and paid for by us up front - not the EasyJet flight from Gatwick they transferred us to, but everything else. We were repaid everything we claimed - I think EasyJet have quite a good reputation for that.

No1HolidayPlanner · 22/01/2025 09:54

This has happened to me 3 times for various reasons with EasyJet.

You will be able to book another flight via the app. They will put you up in a hotel and your meals will be included.

I received a text like this

We're sorry to inform you that your flight has been cancelled. You can transfer onto a new flight, arrange a hotel room or get a refund.

It's all fairly easy to do on the App or via your online account.

Hopefully all will be fine.

stormacoming · 29/01/2025 07:16

I have to say I've been impressed with easyJet (I was expecting to be let down!)
We had the email the night before to say flight was cancelled and offering several options to rebook - so we booked a Saturday flight.
We'd already booked an extra night in the hotel so we wouldn't have to move elsewhere, and DH didn't think it was worth trying to claim for it...but he did, and they've confirmed refund is on the way ☺️

We were cancelled in Prague, we were told to arrive at 10am the next day. We managed to get a room at the hotel we'd been staying at and claimed on insurance. The next day they kept putting our flight back and finally we were flown into Gatwick, so coaches were laid on to the other airports, we arrived at Bristol lwo days after our flight was due.

Only good thing is that the vouchers for food and drink were more than enough. No refund because the airport was close due to snow.
