Which one to choose? Would love to hear your experience in which you have visited :)

Loved loved loved Azores. Never been to Madeira.

The hydrangeas were spectacular. Roads were very good . Scenery was beautiful. Volcanic beaches. Beautiful lagoon to swim in (expensive though I think it cost the family about 5 euros 😂 which included beautiful paths and changing rooms). Amazing beef market restaurant (forgot the name sorry). There is also an island app as the weather changes so quickly which was good. If you have specific questions I can help.

As long as you have a pulse, you are too young for Madeira.

Went 10 years ago for some winter sun , then early 30ies. And it was just dull. There was very little night life and very little to do.Other ppl I know have who have visited have said similar.

We got desperate half way through and took a bus to the volcano museum on the non tourist side. The walk up in the mountains was also good. And there might have been a church of interest.

Azores all day long.

Its like hawaii and ireland had a baby just amazing!

Dont expect too much food wise, food is FINE, its not cuba or anything but you are not going to be getting seville/porto/san sebastian level of food

We went to The Azores (Sao Miguel Island) 10 years ago. It may have improved but at that time it was dire. We had expected a quiet, scenic, relaxed, friendly holiday with some cycling on their small roads.
The reality was that the drivers were absolutely maniacs. Beautiful small roads with absolute nutters driving on the roads. We have cycled all over Europe but couldn't use our bikes there.
The hotels (expensive) were extremely basic and the food was even more basic. We are ex backpackers and are happy to eat very basic food. The food was so bad we bought bread and fillers and made sandwiches most days.
Dreadful issues at airport too (and in Lisbon) as they lost our luggage BOTH ways.

We always try and find the best of anywhere we visit but honestly can't find anything at all that would ever entice either of us (or our friends that came wiht us) to return to The Azores.

We have been to both. They are both quite humid. The Azores (or at least São Miguel, the main island) are basically 20° every day almost year round and Madeira is closer to 25° every day, a bit warmer in high summer.

The sand in São Miguel is black and there is not much nightlife to speak of. But if you like nature and walking you will have a fabulous time. The scenery reminded us of Cornwall or Brittany in places. Lots of Portuguese and Scandinavian tourists. No footy shirts.

Madeira seemed to fall between several stools. Not as warm as the Canaries, not as pretty as the Balearics, and everywhere is on a slope. The food was better though.

I'm not sure if we would go back to either place, but if we had to pick one I would say the Azores. But a lot will depend on what you want from a holiday.

I went to Madeira in my 30's and loved it. Gorgeous island, no riff raff, amazing food, hardly any rugrats - total perfection.

I would absolutely love to go back.
