Anyone been? Any tips? How long will we want and how expensive is it? If we don't stay in a Lego hotel how is the transport?

Hoping to go in August with Lego-mad DS, 12. Just the two of us.

For those of you planning to hire a car, make sure you get a parking clock/disc.

Europarking tracked us back to the UK when we parked in the supermarket carpark near what was to become the Lego House. We could only have been there for 10-15 minutes.

Oh we miss the Esbjerg Ferry.

Details of how to park in Denmark here: www.visitdenmark.com/node/841

Don’t forget to book ahead for the Robot made lunch in Lego House!

I have a 13 and 16 year old. Would they be far too old for legoland . We absolutely love theme parks

I enjoyed it and I’m 46!! If they are into Lego they will like the Lego house more tho

Radyward I would get the teens to look at the rides on YouTube. They will probably find it a bit tame, but it is very well done. It isn't as rammed as the Windsor Legoland and just seemed a little more chilled.

If you do like adventurous rides over plastic bricks I would recommend de Efteling (about 90 mins drive south of Amsterdam airport). That really is set up for teenagers to have fun.

We went last year for 4 nights / 3 days and stayed at the lego hotel. The lego house was amazing, definitely plan to go, and allocate a day with lunch at the mini chef robot cafe.

We did 1 day in Legoland, 1 day at the lego house, and another day at Legoland (we got discount tickets for the 2nd day at the end of the first day) We went outside of Danish holidays so it was really quiet and we got on the rides with no queues. Highlight here of Legoland was the driving school, 4d movies and the ninjago arena. We went at opening to the lego house and stayed there til about 3pm

Billund is very walkable (can get to the town centre from Legoland in 10-15 mins) and there's some nice small cafes, bakery, restaurants and grocery stores etc

There's loads of lego shops, but it's very £££££!. If you keep receipts, you can claim back tax at the airport. The lego hotel is ok for the experience but it's dated - I know it's small things but there's no air con or heating in the rooms, room service was very hit and miss, not sufficient storage for clothes and empty bags (there were 3 of us with winter clothes tho, which might have contributed) However, the restaurant was decent for breakfast, staff were great, and there's loads of play areas for the kids, inside and out.

If you’re buying souvenirs it’s cheaper at the legohouse which has a lego store (so you can earn points, get your lego passport stamped) than at Legoland which has a Merlin store.

If you’re staying in one of the lodges, the shop at Lalandia is considerably cheaper for groceries than the one at the gate of the lego campsite.

Billund is walkable but there’s also a free bus that goes around the major landmarks so save your feet for the park.

I think Windsor vs Bilund is six of one, half a dozen of the other. I preferred Bilund, found it less intense. I think there’s a bit more on offer at Windsor.

If they love Lego, and have never been they might enjoy it. We stopped off at Windsor last year with a 14 and 15 year old and they found it too childish. They’ll probably love it again as as adults but for now they’re in that cool zone. They loved Thorpe and Alton Towers which had more for their age group.

HiGunny · 19/01/2025 15:10

We went last year and had a fab time. We did 2 days Legoland, I day Lego House and 1 day Lalandia. We stayed in the Legoland hotel which was just amazing for my Lego mad kids. We've also been to Windsor but preferred Billund - queues were way shorter.

If you are thinking of staying in one of the Lego Hotels, check out the annual pass. It gives you discounts on the accommodation, to Lego House, Lalandia, Wow Park and also discounts in some of shops and restaurants. For us more than 1 day in Legoland was beneficial to buy the annual pass.

Nobody yet has mentioned the other attraction in Billund, which is WOW Park. This is a rustic, adventure playground type of park - think ropeways, Tarzan-swings, a mega-slide, animals to pet ... the exact opposite of a squeeky-clean Disney/Merlin "theme park" but great for anyone whose kids don't mind getting their knees dirty. You can take your own picnic into the park, and grill food on the grills provided for guests. I have it on the good authority of two boys (8 and 11) that they thought WOW park was better than Legoland.

Meanwhile, back at Legoland. The Billund version is much better than Windsor - less crowded and a far friendlier atmosphere. Food is better too, if a bit pricey (unless you're used to London prices). Danish schools go back in mid-August, perfect timing for English families who have holidays towards the end of August.

Lego House is a hoot - when we've been with the family, it has been as much of a struggle to get the adults to leave as it has been to get the kids out. You start off looking at the millions of blocks and at what is being built by the kids ... then you start to put together a few blocks ... then you build a Lego fish, scan it and put it into the bonkers aquarium with the other fish ... then you find the animation studio ... then you build a racing car ...

Havanananana · 03/02/2025 18:42

Just when everyone was getting excited .... Ryanair have announced that they've fallen out with the Danish government over Air Passenger Taxes and are stopping all flights to and from Billund from the end of March. So unless you live near Heathrow and are willing to pay eye-watering BA prices, it looks like trips to Legoland, Lego House and WOW Park in Billund are off the programme for the time being. 😥

Madcats · 03/02/2025 19:24

Eek: That will probably mess up a few holiday plans!

My Plan B suggestion would be to fly to Copenhagen and hire a car. The drive is just under 3 hours. Odense is about 1/2 way and a lovely old city (worth breaking the journey for IMO).

Safferari · 03/02/2025 19:33

Ahh, that's a shame. We do indeed live near Heathrow though so it was always going to be good old BA for us!

Oh gosh what a shame. That made Billund trips so much easier. I’ve been but my friends will be impacted by this

Cyclingforcake · 03/02/2025 19:40

We’re going this year as well so watching with interest. We’re staying at Lalandia and planning one day in each of Legoland, Lego House and WOW park. And hoping to do the Lalandia water park but in short bursts everyday. But judging by this we may be trying to cram too much in.

Cyclingforcake · 03/02/2025 19:43

Oh and we’re flying from Manchester with KLM. Do have to change in Amsterdam but the timings were better than the RyanAir flights for not a lot more money. So that might work for some others wanting to use non-London airports.

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/02/2025 19:47

I’ve looked up about the closure and it doesn’t necessarily mean all flights are cancelled, they are closing the Billund base (2 aircraft and 60 staff) but not cancelling all flights to and from. The Ryanair I took to Billund from Manchester was definitely crewed by Mancunians not Danes.

Skyscanner showed a flight LHR-BLL via Munich (!) for half the price of BA's direct flight. But the journey time would be about 7 hours, and flying for 2 hours in the totally opposite direction to Billund would be both crazy and environmentally indefensible.

According to the Danish media, Ryanair have stopped selling tickets for flights to and from Billund from the end of March, but there is no mention of what will happen to anyone who has already booked tickets for departures from then onwards. Ryanair accounts for about one-third of all the passenger traffic into and out of Billund, over a million passengers a year, so perhaps this is just a threat in order to force the Danes into some sort of concession.

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/02/2025 19:58

Indeed this will be pretty difficult for Danish tourism
all because of some €4 each way tax. I’m fairly sure most passengers won’t really bat an eyelid at paying €8 extra compared with expensive options via other airports

When I went to Billund for work, I used to go on a tiny 30 seater turbo prop, which was ridiculously expensive but my client was paying.

Then the oil industry hit bad times and they would only pay for the indirect flights which were about a quarter of the price. After that I went via Amsterdam, Brussels or even Paris so you will get some creative options on Skyscanner.

Passengers are not being given the choice - it's Ryanair that has stopped selling the tickets and is closing the base in Billund.

We stayed at the legoland lodges - self catering is straightforward. We went in the May half term, so not school holidays in Billund. No queues, nice weather. We found that the park was not as spread out as Windsor so less walking! The bus from the airport goes straight to Legoland, and you can walk from Legoland into Billund and Lego house as needed - there is a lovely footpath with sculptures and playparks.

stonkytonk11 · 03/02/2025 20:28

We had a brilliant trip to Billund last year...highly recommend it. Stay at Lalandia, 5 minutes from the airport on the bus and about a 5 minute walk from Lalandia main building to Legoland. Lego house is amazing! Lalandia is such a fun place. The main building has pretty much everything you could need including a great little supermarket, nice restaurants and even clothes shops as well as bowling, ice skating and a brilliant water park. We took a bus (from outside Legoland) to Vejle - a 30 min journey, it's a lovely town with decent shops on a long pedestrianised street, well worth a visit if you have time. Enjoy! We had such a great time, Billund is a funny little place, so so quiet but has so much to do. You need to try the Billund bakery beside Lego house, delicious
