To book queue skipping tickets for the pyramids

As the title says really, I'm taking my two sons (4 and 8) to Egypt in a couple of weeks and we have booked the flights for a day trip to the pyramids. I'm just wondering if we should pay on the day to get into the precinct area or book in advance and if anyone has any recommendations of websites to do so that aren't scams etc. I'm also a very nervous flyer and the thought of flying EgyptAir to the pyramids is making my anxiety reach whole new levels so if anyone has flown on this airline and has positive things to say then please feel free to reassure me 😂. Or anything positive in general about the whole pyramids experience or tips that might be useful would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I've had probably15 flights with EgyptAir, just as good as any other airline.
They're dry, but that's not really a problem.

We've been to the Pyramids twice, but both times with a private guide so no queues involved. I can't remember the name of the company unfortunately

Anything you can do to book in advance is advisable. I am married to an Egyptian man and can tell you the experience can be chaotic even for the locals! However if you have paid in advance to a tour guide, they will look
after you. Look at Get Your Guide for a pre arranged tour.
I have flown EgyptAir for internal flights many times. Don't worry.
All in all, visiting the Pyramids is chaotic but worth it. Don't make eye contact with anyone begging or trying to sell something! If you have a tour guide, he won't allow them near you.

Pay for a guide (GetYourGuide is fine, just check the reviews). They'll point out the interesting things and tell you about the history, but also make all the logistics a lot easier. They'll get a driver and tickets, keep the pesterers away and negotiate an acceptable price with the camel keepers for rides. If you don't go with a guide then prepare for long and boisterous queues and people constantly offering tours, services, trinkets and otherwise bothering you. One man literally tried to pick me up and put me on his donkey. Thankfully I'm fat and he couldn't manage!

You need a tour guide. Especially with kids.

I've been twice and wouldn't have felt safe without one to be honest. Not to freak you out but the whole experience is a lot. And littered with potential risks, scammers, beggars, general pestering and touching.

I wouldn't bother with the pyramids. They're shit.

Iwe nt to the Pyramids in June with DS. ( adult) We spent under 5 minutes queuing to buy entrance tickets , walked through and within another couple of minutes had arranged a horse and cart that took us round No issues at all.

I wouldn’t say you necessarily need a guide, it’s quite straightforward - 3 pyramids. Main one right in front, then walk round to the right and see a quieter one.
Just ignore anyone that tries to speak to you, you don’t need a carriage, a camel, a donkey etc

I wouldn’t bother paying to go inside, it’s steep, baking hot, narrow and literally just a bare room at the top.

@Turmerictolly

Have you actually been? 😀😀😀

Turmerictolly · 16/01/2025 22:23

@catin8oots, I'm well travelled.
