Whale watching help!!

Hi hoping someone can help.
Would love to incorporate a holiday this year with whale watching, specifically orca.
So online, I've found all sorts of info and I'm confused.

Initially thought Canada, Newfoundland. But after searching more closely, it seems like its more humpback 'area'. (Not that I wouldn't be delighted with this!).
I've also read Boston is a good shout.
So criteria is somewhere warm so if we don't see any , we still get a 'holiday'. So no freezing cold like Iceland!!
Looking at during summer 6 weeks holiday.
Family of 6 . Myself and Dp, adult Dc x2 2 teen.
I'm think budget of 15k. (Prob cost more?)
Thanks

Ooh I will!!
Initially i was looking at a package hol but i think I can do all of this by myself!

Definitely don't need a package holiday - we have always done it independently and it has been much cheaper and exactly what we wanted. Most of the whale watching companies do a free return if you don't see anything the first time, so it's worth being on the island for a few days in case you need to go out again. We saw so much more wildlife than whales, it really was the most amazing experience of my life.

Vancouver Island ,beautiful weather and the whale watching was amazing.Get a BC ferry over from Vancouver to Victoria. If you are lucky you might spot an Orca on the ferry as well. Cannot recommend enough…I want to be there now!!

Saw whales in Iceland , and there was lots else to do as well spectacular scenery

Oh thanks
This has given me inspiration
I always book hols independently but this seemed a bit more complicated.
I'm spurred on now. I know there are no guarantees to see anything. But I want to try!!!!

How about the Azores? (although technically Europe, but far from the mainland!). I haven't been myself but my parents were planning trip there before Covid hit.
The islands are supposed to be stunning though so lots to see even if you don't see the whales.

Edited

We went to the Azores last Easter hoping to see whales. Didn't see a single whale! Lots of dolphins though, and ir was a lovely holiday as the islands are beautiful.

On Vancouver Island we used Orca Spirit Adventures. There are lots of companies but we were completely happy with them and the trip we went on.

There are never any guarantees, but - and this will sound like the daftest comment, but it should be said - check your research and choose a time when the Whales are there! I know that seems obvious but you wouldn't believe how often I have heard someone say "saw nothing" only to work out that the whales were a few hundred miles away at that time. Equally, don't pick a "cusp" - they might be early or late! Nature is like buses - undependable, never on timetable, and you can wait for ages only for three to come along together.

We flew to Vancouver and stayed Air BnB in Kitsilano , went exploring for a week..so much to see and do. We then went over to Vancouver Island and stayed at Maple Bay . We did have a car …so worth it . We booked Whale watching once we were in Vancouver. Cost of whole trip for everything was about £5000 inc flights ,car and spending money for 2 . Plus I paid for son who lives in Vancouver for his trips, meals out etc ,We were there for 11nights ,in July..absolutely bloody awesome.
We also had a black bear cross the road on Vancouver Island whilst driving.

We stayed at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel on Vancouver Island. I'd love to go back. I think the whale watching companies do hotel pickups. Highly recommend Eagle Wing Tours

Super excited. Can't wait to actually get cracking on booking!!

I did whale watching in Nova Scotia in the summer in a place called Brier Island. Fantastic and a gorgeous place to visit.

Redwinedaze · 16/01/2025 16:30

We have seen whales on boat trips off California and South Africa and Scotland!
