European 4-nighter in mid-March

Just looking for some inspiration/recommendations for an extra long weekend for a couple (able-bodied, happy to do a lot of walking around a city and use public transport) around March 15th.

Ideally within a three-hour flight from London.

We like:
Cities- big or small
A bit of luxury
Nice food and beer/wine
Good coffee/cafes/pastries
Art galleries or museums

Do not like/want for this trip:
Spa
Skiing
Shopping
Sun (as in 20°+ likely)/resorts
Very active outdoor activities (rock climbing, water sports etc)

We’ve recently been to these places and don’t want to return so soon:
Berlin
Dublin
Belfast
Edinburgh
Copenhagen
Malmö
Lund
Oslo
Amsterdam
Bruges
Ghent
Paris
Vienna
Geneva
Rome

I suppose I’m just trying to think of places I haven’t thought of if anyone is willing to share their favourite places.

Salzburg or Santander?

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 11/01/2025 22:57

Seville. So much to see and do. If can stretch to 5 nights I add on Granada if possible. We had a car but know others who used public transport.

OnlyFrench · 11/01/2025 22:59

Porto, Valencia, San Sebastián, Lucca

Bobbybobbins · 11/01/2025 23:00

Seville
Valencia
Marrakesh

Islayskye · 11/01/2025 23:16

Budapest

irregularegular · 11/01/2025 23:19

We've just come back from Seville. Absolutely beautiful city. Fairly small but enough to explore for a few days. Very walkable and great food. Might be a little warm for you, but only low 20s on average, so I would say pretty perfect!

irregularegular · 11/01/2025 23:21

Or Venice would be an obvious one. Maybe too obvious. Or Florence?

MinnieMountain · 12/01/2025 06:23

Munich.

AyrnotAir · 12/01/2025 06:24

We are going to Prague end of March. My cousins there just now and looks great.

Marrakesh

109% just would also throw Porto into the ring

MrsJamin · 12/01/2025 06:27

Budapest. Beautiful and interesting.

Radiatorvalves · 12/01/2025 06:38

Bilbao. Unlikely to be that warm. Marseilles/Aix en Provence?

Caspianberg · 12/01/2025 06:41

Yes Venice is good in March. Far less other tourists so handy if you want to sightsee and go into various museums and galleries. Book some guided tours

readingismycardio · 12/01/2025 06:41

Prague/Budapest/Bucharest

ApolloandDaphne · 12/01/2025 06:42

We are going to Madrid at the start of April. It has all you are looking for.

letshavetea · 12/01/2025 06:44

Palma, Lucca, Malaga, Seville, Lisbon, Bologna, Venice (all with easy airport access for a short break).
(can’t remember if any of these were already on your already visited list?).

chocolatemonster · 12/01/2025 06:57

Krakow. Just returned from there - fabulous city

TeamGeriatric · 12/01/2025 06:59

If you don't mind the cold then Krakow, Prague, Budapest or Munich. Your list is also pretty light on Italy, Spain and Portugal, loads of options there and they will be warmer. I normally narrow down to a list of 3 or 4 and then flight prices always dictate my eventual choice.

JoJothegerbil · 12/01/2025 07:00

Another vote for Krakow. We were there at the end of Match last year. It’s a wonderful city and very walkable.

feliciabirthgiver · 12/01/2025 07:02

Madeira (Three House Hotel - Funchal)

FishPie2 · 12/01/2025 07:05

Malaga or Krakow, both fabulous places.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 12/01/2025 07:26

Munich

MinnieMountain · 12/01/2025 07:28

Or Avignon.

Zephyry · 12/01/2025 07:29

Lisbon ticks all the boxes!

3rdCoffeeThisMorning · 12/01/2025 07:31

Prague. If you take train about 30 min from Prague, you get to Karlstejn. Lovely ride and lovely castle.
