TUI package holiday prices - constantly fluctuating

I know I should have booked a year in advance but we didn't have the money for a holiday then.

We are looking at going to Menorca, all inclusive in August (we are bound by school holidays).

I've been keeping a watch on several holidays at different hotels and the prices are constantly fluctuating so I'm unsure when to book?

One holiday has risen and dropped by about £500 in the space of a week so I'm loathe to end up paying more than we should for it.

Any tips?

In my experience with TUI, they generally only rise.

If it has dropped in the past week, and you know for certain where you want to go, I’d just bite the bullet and book now. Even if it has risen, I don’t think they will necessarily drop it again.

Are you using the code they have at the moment?

Yes I'm using the code on the app to get the extra £315 off.

I tried seeing if it was cheaper to book directly with the hotel but the cost of the flights bump it up to almost the same as a package.

It's just so galling that if I could have booked last summer it would have been nearly £2k cheaper for the same holiday!

It's called dynamic pricing.
Generally speaking it's cheaper to book well in advance and this is definitely true for school holidays.
The exception is for departures in January / February when you get the best prices around November.

If you book direct and book the flights separately you won’t have the protection of it being a package.

Ex travel person here, I worked in 'costings' for a while. Like a PP said, it's Dynamic Pricing, pretty much based on supply and demand. Jan was our busy month as millions would be looking at (and many booking) holidays.

Easyjet Holidays are cheaper btw and no I don't work for them (I worked for good old Monarch).

There's something to be said for the old days when we booked out of a brochure and the price was the price on the page.

Try Holiday Hypermarket as it's a cheaper version of TUI.

The holiday I booked on Christmas Eve is now £500 more expensive with loveholidays than when I booked it. I’m glad I half drunkenly impulse booked then!! As January progresses prices tend to go up in my experience.
