Lake Garda 1st week April - too cold?

I’m travelling to the region on business during the first week of April and I was wondering whether to extend my trip and sightsee a bit around either Lake Garda or Venice.

I’ve visited Venice before but never been to Lake Garda, so although I’ve looked up the average temperatures at that time of year, you never really know how it’s going to feel. Everywhere I’ve ever been to has felt quite different to the predicted temperatures.

Is it a waste to go so early in the year when it may be chilly and breezy? I have visions of enjoying boat trips and a spritz by the water but I imagine it might be quite a different experience pre-season?

There’s always so much more to see in Venice, so I’d be happy spending time there too as there’s plenty of indoor museums etc. I haven’t seen yet if it’s cold. I just can’t make the decision!

I think it's fine if you are aware of the temperature before you go and pack accordingly. We stayed in Peschiera October half term once and had been totally unprepared for how cold it felt in the evening, early morning. We actually had a good trip, visiting Venice, Moderna and Bologna but just hadn't packed enough warm clothes for the evening. Just looking at 'average weather temps' showing a high of 14 in March and 18 in April, I reckon you would expect a high of 16 which is similar to southern Spain in January, which is something I'm very used to. Important to take layers as you may be fine in a tee shirt in the afternoon , but may need a light padded jacket for evenings, early mornings.

I think it would be quite nice - just don't expect to be sunbathing. And also accept you will probably get a couple of days where there may be rain or at least cloudy. And if you are heading up Monte Baldo that will definitely be cold! I have a picture of DS up there in June, wearing shorts with snow in the background!

Thanks @ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea I guess my hunch is that it’s a destination best saved for warmer weather. Perhaps I will do a day trip rather than stay over.

We have found that a lot of places close down for the winter so I would check if things are open yet when you go. Some of these resorts are like ghost towns out of season.
