Two nights in Bangkok

We have a pretty short stay in Bangkok coming up. We land on the Sunday afternoon around 4pm and fly out (internally) on Tuesday lunch time / afternoon.

What are the absolute must sees? Possibly thinking of doing an evening tour (after a few hours sleep on the Sunday evening).

MBK!

How long are we needing in MBK? We do fly back out of Bangkok two weeks later and will be staying by the airport the night before the flight. Thinking we could spend the evening there so we don’t have to drag the shopping round Thailand for two weeks.

Eat here: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g293916-d1128744-r884868825-Soi_Polo_Fried_Chicken-Bangkok.html
I went twice in 3 days and think about that chicken at least twice a week 18 months later 😂

What interests you? I’ve been to Bangkok a lot and have seen the Grand Palace but that’s a very popular one. I love taking a boat down the river.

Jim Thompson House is incredible.

I think you are wise to wait until your return to do the shopping- it’s what I do.

We did an evening tuk tuk food tour in Bangkok and we all absolutely loved it. The guide was great, we got to see some different bits of Bangkok, ride in a tuk tuk and eat loads of amazing food! We organised It through Khanom Travel and they were great. Grand palace is also definitely worth a visit as is a shopping centre (I think we did the Siam one).

Honestly I’m not sure, quite overwhelmed by the Bangkok element. We are currently losing weight and getting fitter but also can’t walk for miles and miles so need to consider that too.
I think probable the Grand Palace as feel like it’s a must see. Food and shopping.
We are staying by the river so definitely plan to incorporate a boat tour.
I have seen the evening food tours which sounds good.
Need to balance making the most of the couple of days but not be totally exhausted.
I’ve sorted all our other stops.

Just don't try to do too much. The Grand Palace is fabulous but very very busy, go early if you can. We did a boat trip which was fabulous, definitely worth doing.
Do not take a rickshaw from the grand palace anywhere, it is a con to get you into shops and takes ages.

Definitely do an evening tour they do all the best bits

Dueanamechange2025 · 08/01/2025 11:01

Did you book the tours before the trip or when there?

I booked our food tour before we went as you can't guarantee availability otherwise. They came and picked us up from our hotel at the agreed time (in the tuk tuks) and then dropped us back there again at the end. The price was agreed when I booked and we paid it in cash to the guide, we then had to pay for all the food we bought to try on the tour. It was very straightforward to arrange and the guide was excellent.

We used this service a couple of years ago: https://www.withlocals.com/locals/thailand/bangkok/guides/?k=Bangkok+Tour+Guide&utm_source=google_ads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=21045260554&utm_content=157003261897&utm_term=bangkok+tour+guide&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA4fi7BhC5ARIsAEV1Yib-um4rpNu3fYu_tkcWpYrh0FgulhG8Xi45CExk9fmHnjwvDupIXtQaAgBnEALw_wcB

We had a lovely student who knew her way around and could also tailor the trip to us - when my chidlren started to get a bit hot, she directed us to an aircon boba bar, for instance. Also, if you are with a guide you get to skip the queues at the major attractions. Book in advance, though.

You can do Grand Palace , Jim Thompsons and boat tour all in one busy day if you start early! China Town in the evening for food. It’s fun (and efficient) to do the whole thing with a guide.
