Princesa Yaiza or Villa Maria, Canary Islands

Looking at going on holiday in June. We're a couple in our 40s, with a 5 year old and my 80 year old DM (who will need her own bedroom)

We've seen these 2 hotels in Lanzarote and Tenerife that seem to get good reviews and good sized rooms.

Mostly need to accommodate my very energetic 5 year old and have a heated pool or jacuzzi for my Mum.

Has anybody got any other suggestions or been to either of these hotels? Happy to go anywhere that's a short haul flight away, near the sea.

Thankyou! Xx

We loved Villa Maria, the kids have even asked go back there this year. The one thing to consider is it is very hilly and a lot of stairs, which could be a consideration for your Mum (although there is a buggy service but we didn't use it so can't comment on that)

Have you look d at the Abama in Tenerife? We loved it there. Stayed at the Yaiza years ago and it was fine just a little too much early Sunbed hogging.

I have been to Yazia and it was ok but not as luxurious as it appeared to be from their website. The rooms were so depressing - they were dark, and the main bedroom faced onto the corridor so you couldn't ever open the curtains. Also there was quite a lot of sunbed hogging. The restaurants were nice though and it was in quite a good location.
Bahia Del Duque in Tenerife was better if you like the Canaries but personally in June I would be going somewhere like Greece / Spain / Italy as it will be warmer then and you have more options for nicer places (I'm not a massive fan of the Canaries but will go for nearby cheap winter sun).

Ah thankyou, tbf I would prefer to go to Spain, Greece or Italy but the Canaries seem to be cheaper (I've never been). Shame if Yaiza isn't all it's cracked up to be though, did you notice if the childrens entertainment and spa were any cop? My Mum could get the "relax" package with her room and it gives daily access to the spa and aromatherapy.

Great thankyou, yes I saw review comments about the hill so would either see if I could hire a wheelchair or just taxi/buggy into town and the beach. Btw are the local beaches any good there? Any room tips? :) we were looking at a 2 bed villa with jacuzzi do you know what the room layout is? Mum would prefer a ground floor bedroom.

Thanks again. Xx

I think most people get a taxi down to the town, we seemed to be the only ones who walked! There is a hotel minibus that goes to beaches I think but my kids don't really like the beach so we spent most of the time around the pool!

We had a two bed villa and one of the bedrooms was downstairs so perfect for your Mum.

Kids club at Yaiza is fab plus evening disco and family activities through the day so lots going on whether you leavw your child there or do things together.
The hotel is generally accessible with ramps and lifts if needed for your mum.
I love the spa there- the heated saltwater pool did wonders for my bad joints and was never busy.
Playa Blanca itself and the Marina the other side are nice for food and shops and again there's always a ramp rather than steps.
We have been 3 times but I think my 10yo has now grown out of the kids club unfortunately!

We went to Yaiza twice, once 12 years ago and the second time 8 years ago and we loved it both times. I had small children at the time and the pools and entertainment were great. We also loved the location and ate out quite a lot. Obviously, I don't know if it has changed but we really enjoyed it.

toomuchcheesetoomuchchocolate · 07/01/2025 22:03

I would echo the fact that Yaiza is nice but not luxurious. We were there recently having not been there for 8 years and none of the decor had changed so it was looking fairly dated.
Having said that, it is very comfortable with a range of restaurants, good activities for the children (kids club, football camp each morning (you have to pay a supplement for the football camp) and soft play open at various times in the day), nice beach and we like the location as there are a number of restaurants to walk to.

DancingNotDrowning · 07/01/2025 22:12

I didn’t love the Yazia, definitely not luxurious and agree with the sun bed hogging - although after a couple of days the staff were actively throwing people off.

The location is ok but not great, there’s a couple of bars/restaurants and shops in the marina and its a bit of a walk from the hotel.

I wouldn’t go back
