I'll be travelling from Ireland with two Dc, 13 and 10. Would love to know where people would go/recommend? City break probably most likely, also considering Cinqueterre or Rome.. appreciate any suggestions.

Seville is wonderful. Loads to see and do in walking distance. Lovely warm weather too. We had a wonderful 3 days there last year. ☺️

Ooh great, thanks for that. I've never been.

March is possibly a bit early for the cinque terre, you'd have to hope for good weather, as I think they are rightly cautious and shut the trails if the weather has been bad. The hiking trails actual seem like they are open right now (based on the website), the via dell'amore is stated as being about to reopen finally, date given as mid-Feb. It's been shut since late 2012 when 4 tourists died in a landslide. No reopening date given for other trail that has been shut for just long. We walked them with kids ages 4 and 6, the younger walked a lot but was carried a bit, the paths are definitely not flat (some are steeper than others) but you don't need to be massively fit. The towns would be open, but not sure how many of the restaurants and tourists would be open so early season. Lack of tourists definitely a bonus if things are open.

I would also suggest Seville, or maybe Munich

Porto

Agree with PPs - too early for Cinque Terre. I would personally avoid Rome this year because of the Jubilee. Seville is a great suggestion. Or Lisbon. Or Budapest.

Fly into nice. See that, Cannes, monte Carlo etc. weather will be lovely in march, I'm going then and checked weather today and it's already warm so really looking forward to it as a city break.

Check out the travel man 48 hours in show on it. Looks fab

Valencia in Spain for Las Fallas www.visitvalencia.com/en/events-valencia/festivities/the-fallas There's lots to do in Valencia anyway, but Las Fallas really makes it special

Brilliant call@forgottenmyphone. The museum for the festival was really interesting and I've always wanted to go see it with my own eyes, but it's always in term time.

@mikado1 did you get anywhere booked OP?

mikado1 · 17/01/2025 17:41

Thank you all, nothing booked yet. Ambiguously hoping to book this break and our summer holiday this weekend! Fingers crossed.

We did Amsterdam when our kids were that age and they loved it. River cruise, Anne Frank house, Van Gogh museum and then a food tour of all the ‘tik tok’ famous foods. I had always thought of it as a much more adult destination (for obvious reasons!) but very easy to avoid and an absolutely beautiful place to visit so close.

Malta would be lovely and there is lots to do there.
