Venetian riviera/Lido di Jesolo?

Pondering taking our kids (9 and 11) and my parents in May half-term - any experience/recommendations? My reasoning is that none of us like really hot weather but we do enjoy a relaxed, poolside half-board type holiday, and I'd really like to take my parents to see Venice before it's too late.

Ideally we'd like a smallish clean hotel that does half-board and has family rooms for us and the kids (or adjoining rooms). We'd like to visit Venice, spend some time by the pool(will it be warm enough?), take a boat trip, do some wandering etc - we won't be packing loads of sightseeing in though, realistically. The hotel doesn't need to be luxurious but my mother is a clean fiend...any recs (or critique!) very welcome please

My friend loved the Falkensteiner in Jesolo, they also have an offer on atm (25% off if you book before mid Feb I think). I don’t love Jesolo it’s very cheesy and over touristy and the beach is not amazing. End of May not sure if it’s pool weather, if you are lucky yes. But will be on fresh side.
Italian schools won’t be off so shouldn’t be crazy busy. And you can do long beach walks.

This is helpful, thank you @SchoolDilemma17

I don't know heather it's foolish to attempt a sunny pool hol whilst also touring Venice - probably better to focus on one and hope they still have the energy in a couple of years for the other 😁

I didn't realise Jesolo was cheesy though, might do some Google Streetview...

We did a similar thing last year OP but further round the peninsula from Jesolo. I agree, it's modern and not very scenic there.

We stayed in Ca Pasquali on a 5* holiday park. Would you consider a posh caravan/lodge for the family? Pools and activities. Natural spaces, beautiful beaches.

We then caught the water taxi from Punta Sabbione straight into Venice for a few sightseeing trips (around 30 mins). Easy to get to the other islands like Murano and Burano from there too. We did also hire a car so went further inland a couple of times too.

We loved it. Beach and city - Best of both worlds!

Ahh this is promising, @Etherealcelestialbeing, thank you! I think I've looked at the Ca' Pasquali holiday park - it did look nice. It's not out of the question but I'd have to be sure it would be comfortable enough for my parents. Did you find it warm enough for beaches bd pool, in May half-term?

That's the one we stayed at! I would recommend it. There's a fab restaurant up by the main road with gorgeous gardens and great steak. Although, it is a little way from a town centre, it was easy to cycle, walk, drive or bus around. Another plus - the site (and general area) is very flat, no hills at all.

We actually went in the summer holidays so I'm afraid I don't know what the temps would be like in May. It was very hot in summer!

I am Italian and Jesolo is a very popular with families and tourists, it’s just not picturesque and pretty. There is nothing wrong with it but don’t expect a beautiful Italian town with traditional shops and small alleys. You will find gelaterias, tourist shops, street vendors, arcades and restaurants. It’s not awful but definitely not Italy’s prettiest beach town. I would never go during school holidays but you should be fine in May. Lots of dated 3 star Hotels, so look for newer Hotels.

how about Lake Garda and Verona/Venice?

SchoolDilemma17 · 06/01/2025 22:37

Late May you are looking at 25-28ish degrees, some beaches might not be open yet. Not swim weather (sea will be cold) but you can seat and chill by the pool or sea. We go to Southern Italy in the May holidays and it’s more reliably around 30 there.

Have a look at Caorle on the same coast. It's much prettier than Jesolo and you can get a ferry into Venice.
