Parents of who have been away with 2 year old - did you take a travel car seat?

Hi, my LO has just turnd 2. He has outgrown the travel system ages ago which we used for our holidays before. We are going to take his pram for when we are out and about. What do you do for car seats for short taxi journeys? Before the travel system worked for us but I cant imagine carrying a car seat with us for day outs. Are there any travel systems for toddlers? Or a foldable car seat or something. Can't really find anything. Any advise would be great. Thanks.

We always took our car seat but we also always have a rental car.

You may want to check the rules in the country if a taxi ride is excempt from having a car seat but I think it depends how often you use it. A transfer to and from the airport is one thing, days out each day is another.

Took it abroad or hired one in the country

how long are your taxi journeys? For an airport transfer I would book a taxi company with a car seat.

20 mins or so. We wont be doing super long journeys

Will be short journeys within the city

If we did package holidays we didn't worry about the transfer from airport to hotel, because it was usually a coach, and we would use public transport if we wanted to go anywhere on holiday.

It only went a bit wrong in Malta, the airport transfer was a minibus driven by a maniac and DD was standing on the seat shrieking "so fast Daddy" while DH frantically tried to make her sit down 😂

Holidays with toddlers are restrictive and this is mainly why. We have always planned our trips to go to a resort so we don’t need to travel anywhere, go somewhere with good public transport or go somewhere where taxis have car seats (Dubai).

We just used the bus when we were able to. It removed the need for a car seat.

If you really wanted a car seat you could look at something like the Nachfolger which is lightweight and folds down quite small. It's expensive but if you travel a lot then it's worth it.

If you are in a city are there alternatives like using a bus or metro system?

Yes we always travelled with car seats - we had joie stages which can be belted in rear facing to pretty much any car. We would book private transfers or hire a car. It's just part of travelling with small kids. Once they were 4 we used trunki boostapaks instead, not ideal but a reasonable compromise for short journeys.

Yeh we were doing resorts before it will be our first city break. Ohh didn't know that about Dubai. We are going to Qatar so not sure if they will even they are close countries

The only toddler holiday disaster we had was when we decided to hire a car seat instead of taking ours.

It's just another piece of luggage. But we weren't resort people at the toddler stage, so a rental car was necessary anyway.

You are doing Doha as a city break with a toddler? Wow won’t it be super hot?

Maxi Cosi Nomad might work for this? It fits with a seatbelt and folds up small. Probably not the safest option ever but better than nothing.
