Family holiday for 10 people

BrightNavyQuail · 06/01/2025 12:50

My parents want to take 10 of us on holiday next year. There will be 6 adults and 4 teenagers (13-16). Everyone is active but we’d ideally like to just chill out and spend time together with the option for days out/things to do.

We’d need to go away in August 2026, for a week to 10 days.

We’ve done Disney before so not keen on Florida, and we feel like we’ve exhausted all inclusive holidays at the moment. We all like cruises so that’s an option, or wouldn’t mind a big villa in Europe but not sure where.

Can anyone recommend specific areas or cruises that they’ve enjoyed for a multi-gen holiday?

Budget is 25-30k for the 10 of us.

We did a weeks cruise round the Adriatic with TUI followed by a week in an AI hotel on an island off Dubrovnik last summer and it was wonderful. They do lots of stay and cruise options, including ten day or 2 week versions.

Would recommend you at that part of the world. Lots of options then to be as active or inactive as you want!

That sounds a brilliant holiday @CornishPorsche . I'm guessing here that the hotel on the island is the TUI blue one on the island where the island trip boats stop, and there isn't much else on the island? If it was this one, did you feel isolated there? It looks very beautiful though (if it was this one).

We rented a huge villa in Majorca for 10 of us. It was a beautiful old stone one, big swimming pool and close to lots of beaches. It was perfect for everyone as the guys rented bikes and cycled most mornings, we'd head to the beaches in the evenings when it was quieter and hang out playing pool games at the villa in the day. The only problem (and it was a big one) was there was no air conditioning, otherwise I'd send you the link to the villa.

How did you find the villa? Which company did you use? Thank you

That'll be it - Kalamota Island. We loved it, only went into Dubrovnik on an evening trip as we'd been in on the cruise. If you want pure rest, it's an idyll.

Went to Croatia last summer. Stayed in Dubrovnik for a few nights then stayed in Split (Omis) for the rest of the holiday. From there we done some day trips Island hopping which was great

We did a big family holiday for grown up DCs and partners a year ago when I retired. Went to Cancun all inclusive and had the most amazing time. Don't usually do AI but it worked really well as there was no faff with food/drink bills etc - DCs could just relax and eat and drink what they wanted, when they wanted. We did a few days out together - swimming in a cenote was incredible and used SUPs and canoes for a day which was a real highlight. DH has said that when we do a big holiday like this in future with the DCs we would look to go AI again as it was just so easy - and he is not generally an AI fan.

Dare I ask how much it cost? We are thinking of doing something similar.

We booked flights through BA and AI accommodation separately. Cost around £12k so probably not as much as you'd think. We went for 10 nights.

Edit with link.

It was incredible - it's got a lazy river in the resort and monkeys running around and the biggest lizards you ever did see! It's in the middle of a mangrove.

We just found it on airbnb but there's a few great villa companies out there. For 10 days it was only £3500 and it slept 13 people. There's loads of great villas on there

Mylazycatspyjamas · 06/01/2025 23:50

The trouble with a villa is all the food that has to be bought and then cooked and cleared up. It’s a huge operation and a lot of expense. A1 sounds ideal as no cleaning or cooking .

We did a similar multigenerational trip last August. Went on the Iona to the Norwegian Fjords. Though a cruise is not my first choice this was great for keeping generations happy. The teens went off all day, made friends and joined us for dinner. We chose different shore trips (though booked them all independently). I really liked the combination of relaxation, beautiful scenery and good family time.

JooLoo · 08/01/2025 14:35

Just saw your budget. Ours was less than £10k for 9 people for cabins with balconies (1 week though excursions and drinks extra). You could go on a smaller, more boutique cruise but we were told there would be less for teens to do.

This sounds ideal! Hadn’t thought of that as a cruise route so will add it to the list.

This sounds brilliant, this is why a cruise appeals to us all so much. We’ve all enjoyed cruises before and think they’re a great teen holiday option. Did you find it easy to find spaces to all hang out together in the evenings?

OP posts:
JooLoo · 09/01/2025 16:18

Yes plenty of space to find somewhere to meet for drinks and then we would book one big table for dinner. Then we might split up again for cinema/shows etc with the teens meeting up with the friends they’d made.
