Lapland Feb 26 - DIY or package?

Hi everyone I would love some advice please. Looking to go to Lapland (probably Levi) in Feb half term 2026 with a family of 5. Kids will be 10-16. We aren't looking for a Santa experience and we haven't skied before, so I would like a mix of activities - sledging, snow shoing, maybe husky or reindeer rides, possibility of seeing the northern lights, skating...
Budget is flexible, I don't really know how much it 'should' cost but I was expecting around £5-6k (being a family of 5 it is never cheap as we need to rooms), and I was hoping to go for less than a week. However looking at Intrepid/Explore the costs seems to be about double that (for 6 nights), excluding flights, and they don't seem to go in Feb half term. Crystal Ski have 7 night trips but they seem to focus on skiing as the only activity so I think you may be paying a premium for 'ski in ski out' accomodation.

Are my costings way out? Can anyone suggest any other travel agents? And if I do it DIY how easy is it to book trips etc myself?

Another option is using Inghams Ski for Levi. The main pain with Levi is getting there direct from a regional airport, you may end up having to use a package holiday company to access their flights, and most operators only seem to fly once/twice a week, so making shorter stays harder to make happen. On the upside, Inghams/Crystal do offer several activities alongside skiing. You could get indirect flights via Helsinki (finnair) or with Lufthansa via Germany (I think, been a while since I checked). I think easyjet does some flights to Kittila, but maybe not for a full season;

Not much accommodation in Levi is ski in, ski out apart from a fancy hotel on the top (Panorama) and maybe the Levi Spa, all the rest are a reasonable walk from town or need the ski bus. That's just what the place costs! There are local companies that can arrange trips for you to do husky/snow mobile etc. I have never managed to do any ice skating in Levi, but I usually go the week before half term, and they haven't had the skate hire setup (there was space to skate, but you needed your own skates) Accommodation at Feb half term can be a bit expensive as it's also the start of the Finnish holidays.

If you want to get rid of the 'skier' surcharge, then you look at somewhere like Rovaniemi , which is less handy for downhill skiing, but has more links to regional airports via Easyjet,

Try the Facebook group Lapland on a Budget. Full of people posting their intineries, costs, flights, accommodation etc. Gives lots of ideas for excursions and activities and also an idea of cost. I costed up about £7/8lK for 5 of us for 4 nights with tour operators nuts looking on here has me thinking we can do it for around £4K doing it all myself. I am aiming for Christmas 2026 but getting ideas already.
