Best age to take child to Disney World Orlando

Hi All 😊

Just wanted people's opinions on what best age to take a child to Disney World Orlando?

I'm thinking about 5/6 years old for the Disney Magic - as they will still believe in the magic at that age.

Obviously not for the fast rides 🤣 that will probably require another trip at teenager age 🤣

Never. It’s hell on earth.

I've been plenty of times and what ever your negative miserable views are on the whole Disney Empire, I'm here to make magical memories for my little ones

Ours were 6 and they still remember it several years later. One of them was just tall enough for the faster rides and the steeper water slides much to the annoyance of the other one.

Amazing! Glad you had a fab time! I hope my little ones will be tall enough at that age to go on some of the bigger rides x

That is another worry of mine with all the walking 🤣 taking a little one. Glad you had an amazing time with your 10 year old xx

We went numerous times after that first visit - we all got addicted!

Clearinguptheclutter · 04/01/2025 20:05

I went at 11 and it was at the time the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me.

Itsbrtnybish · 04/01/2025 20:24

Under 3 because it’s free or any age as long as they are over 102cm.

took mine at 4 and 2 and they loved it. Probably will go every other year

We first went when our two were 6 & 4, and then again when they were 11 & 9. The first trip was easy from the flight aspect, they slept the whole journey back and going there cabin crew took a shine to DS2 and he spent time in the galley (it was a quiet flight going out). Second trip was more memorable for them.

I went just as I was about to turn 9. I have very fond memories, so much so that I chose that as my honeymoon destination. I was at the age where I knew the characters were pretend, but I still enjoyed getting their signatures in my autograph book! Some of the rides were too wild for me at that age though!

I took DD when she was four. She remembers nothing about it and I wish I'd waited until she was a bit older. I think six or seven would have been better.

RawBloomers · 05/01/2025 02:02

If you think you'll only be able to do it once or twice while they are kids I would wait.

We took ours at 6 and they loved it and found it magical but they don't remember it and, tbh, they find a lot of much much cheaper things magical at that age.

Took them back at 10 and they loved it more. They enjoyed the anticipation before hand, planning and booking things up, they were old enough to go off on their own for some of it, which was a huge adventure, and they remember it and look back on it with a lot of happiness.

They want to go back again and they're 16 now. We hope to do it next year if we can.

I’d think it would be fine if you’re planning to go again. But if it’s a once in a lifetime trip I’d say at least 10 to be able to make the most of it.

We considered
tolerance of being strapped into a plane seat for hours, there is often turbulence over the Atlantic,
walking ability,
where we were staying so travel to and from the parks, we were onsite
height for rides.
And afternoon naps
We went when the children were 7 and 10, the 7 year old turned 8 whilst we were there and we had breakfast at Chef Mickeys, it was amazing.

It was meant to be the holiday of a lifetime, it was magical, an incredible experience but it unfortunately has ruined any firework display because nothing can compete with the Magic Kingdom castle projection, Tink flying and the fireworks and music. And every water park too as we have done several in Florida.

Oh and we went back, several times so it is probably going to cost you.

nopdhhd · 05/01/2025 10:45

I think it depends if you plan on going multiple times. If it's a once in a lifetime trip I think 5/6 is too young and you're better
off going to DLP for the whole 'see the magic reaction'. Florida is massive, there are a lot of rides with minimum height requirements, it's a lot of money you'd like them to at least remember some of it, so I'd go for older. Ours were 11 and 8, could go on all they wanted and remember it (though eldest more of course) and we plan to take them again as teens.

If multiple trips are on the cards then it doesn't really matter, it's geared up for all ages and everyone will have a good time, I personally just don't understand people taking little ones on long haul flights to hot countries when still in pushchairs etc, but that's just me, I couldn't be doing with that palaver at those ages, but plenty do.

lapuf · 05/01/2025 11:13

We did 6 and 4 and it was amazing. 6yo was annoyed that she wasn't tall enough for Tron (she was only a few months off as it turned out!). We've promised them we'll go back in two years so they can do universal (will be 10 and 8)

summerlovingvibes · 05/01/2025 11:21

I went when I was 12. My sisters (twins) were 6.

For me at 12 it was the perfect age. Had an amazing time.

My sisters at 6 don't really remember it and I remember it being quite a difficult age for them - they got incredibly tired / difficult in the long queues etc.

I would wait a bit longer.

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/01/2025 12:12

My friend took her sim 4 times over the course of his childhood first time at 6, last at 16. She said the best age when she felt he got the most out of it was when he was 11. As he was still young enough he really enjoyed spending a lot of time with his parents, but old enough to go on everything.

fussychica · 05/01/2025 19:14

DS was 7, loved it so much we went back less than a year later. We trained him up on the walking before we went. Stayed on site the first time (fabulous) and not the second time to keep the cost down but it was still great. He doesn't remember as much as I'd hoped but he is 32😂.

Printedword · 05/01/2025 19:18

I'd probably do the Paris one instead because climate in Orlando is not for everyone and it's a long way for under 10s to travel
