You need a plan b for when ( not if) it rains.,,,,Amsterdam is fucking miserable in the rain .l..and you can’t sit off for the day in a bar, like I have done in the past……go in April….see the bulbs….your 7 year old would love riding a bike thru the bulb fields…l.and more chance of better weather.
if you do go in feb you probs find lots of stuff already booked…..Ann frank house fills up about 3 to 4 months in advance

Also, it’s extortionate to stay in city centre….trains are good …far cheaper ( like less than half ) to stay somewhere a quick ( 5 minute) ride away

Bablands (London kids blogger) has a guide to Amsterdam I think.

Thanks all! Will be a mixture of museums and open air activities I think, will be planning for the weather!

It was absolutely perishing when I went. I had to buy warmer clothes.

Wow, loads of Amsterdam haters in this thread!

op I’m also planning a trip in feb although with a slightly older child. But friends have recommended the science museum, a canal boat tour, and finding a really good place for waffles.

I’ve read that the city centre is not a good place to stay because it’s a bit seedy (like most city centres) so we’re looking at Jordaan or de pijp

My 7 year old loved the science museum, if it’s bad weather you could easily do the majority of the day there. The restaurant at the top with views out to the city is great!

At the moment, Eurostar isn’t running direct into Amsterdam until mid February. Check your dates carefully or you’ll be changing in Brussels. We haven’t done Amsterdam, but Rotterdam is great for kids. Maritime museum, Euromast, Zoo, boat trips, pinball museum, Kinderwijk. The Hague is close too - Madurdam etc.
