Thinking of a city break with 17 yo dd. What is Milan like? I know there are nicer places but the flights and price work out well.

It's a beautiful city. Lots to see. Chilled bars and restaurants. Amazing shops. You'll have a fab time.

You may be flying with Ryanair to Bergamo, or "Milan Bergamo" as they call it. (To be fair, the main Milan airport, Malpensa, is just as far from the city.) If so, do plan to spend a day or two in Bergamo itself. It has a lovely old town, not too touristy, and it's quite a bit cheaper than Milan.

I'd say it's perfect for your DD. Go for it.

La scala is where I want to go, I've promised to take my dd for her birthday year

Milan has a nice spa

Go onto the roof of the duomo and people watch and look at the view. It’s amazing at sunset. You could even take the train to Lugano in Switzerland. It’s quick and not too expensive

Wellness center | QC Termemilano

Whirlpools, saunas, relaxation rooms and steam baths, a peaceful sanctuary in Porta Romana.

It's great, I went with my 19yr old dd last winter. We stayed with my cousin there who is always a bit miffed that more people don't visit as she thinks it's a fantastic city.

Dd went by herself last year. Saw the Last Supper, went on the roof of the Duomo, did a day trip to Lake Como, went to the Galleria. She liked the area near the canal too - Naviglia??

Following as thinking of going for a day trip with dd15. What would you recommend other than shopping?

twilighteaser · 21/12/2024 18:34

Go! Plenty of high street shopping around the Duomo area, then the very posh shops are close by in Via Monte Napoleone area where you can see all the V expensive sports cars and fashionistas! For nightlife and cocktails, go to the canal area called Naviglio (Italian for Canal) There's also a nice flea market down there every Saturday morning and an Antiques Market on the last Sunday of the month. For old quaint Milano visit the Brera area.

There's the castle which you can walk to from the centre too which the lovely Sempione Park at the back of it. The QC spa is great too. Go to the cemetery (Cimitero Monumentale ) it's very interesting and has huge tombs inside it! Next year they are opening a luxury outdoor spa near San Siro stadium which sounds like it will be amazing. Go on the restaurant tram around the city (It's called ATMosfera )
BTW from April 2025 EasyJet are introducing flights from Edinburgh, Manchester & Birmingham to Milan Linate, which is the closest airport the centre and has a direct metro line from the airport right into the city centre San Babila area, which takes around 12 minutes.
Everything I've mentioned can be reached on the underground.
I'm sure I've missed tons but Google will tell you more

Book if you can to see da Vinci's Last Supper (il Cenacolo)... you have to book quite far in advance though
