Travel insurance didn’t pay out

Maybe I’m being unreasonable but I had a urine infection while on holiday in Europe which cost me £200.

I’ve had my claim rejected because I had tonsillitis within the last 2 years and didn’t tell me insurer (I didn’t realise I would need to make them aware of a sore throat) and because I have mild cell changes in my smear test. I’ve never received treatment for these, always just told mid changes come back in 6 months or 1 year. Didn’t realise this would be classed as a chronic condition either as there isn’t anything wrong with me!

im just very pissed off and looking to vent!

My insurer asks me if I have been prescribed anything in the last 12 months so I declared tonsillitis for the antibiotics I had last year, I assumed if I hadn't I just wouldn't be covered for any related issues, did they see it as related to the smear results perhaps?? But yes that's really frustrating OP, I hate dealing with insurance companies.

Complain to them immediately- those things are completely unrelated. And if they still don't pay out go to the Financial Ombudsman. They have found for the claimant in lots of similar cases www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/decisions-case-studies/ombudsman-decisions (search travel insurance unrelated illness)

I appreciate that it's too late now, but... do you have a GHIC? With that you should normally get free care in any public medical facility (you might have to pay upfront but the NHS will pay it back).

Not everyone knows that the GHIC exists. It's the old pre-Brexit EHIC with a Union Jack on the card, but otherwise pretty much the same conditions. In particular, because it's the public health system, there are no exclusions for any pre-existing conditions.

I don’t have the ghic however this was in a private medical centre I was treated - the resort was quite rural and the nearest public medical facility was the only hospital on the island and around 2 hrs away by bus (vs the private one which was 7mins away by bus!)

I’d challenge the rejection, complain and take it to FOS as the above poster says. Can’t see how they can link any of those conditions to what you are claiming for.
