DH has unrealistic expectations with holiday costs

DH grew up in a part of the world where the quality of life was very high vs cost of living, he also lived in a low tax country so his family had lots of spare dosh for fancy holidays.

Now that he is in the UK - he doesn't seem to grasp the cost of going away or how much trips to the Maldives or Seychelles actually cost. He'll say we have a budget of ideally under £2,000 a week for a 5* hotel in the Maldives.

Like yes, dream on? Does anyone else have a DP who doesn't get that holidays these days are way more expensive than they used to be?

Surely the solution is for him to be in charge of arranging holidays?

RosieLeaf · 13/12/2024 21:45

Surely he just has to go online and he’ll be corrected pretty quickly?

Mercurial123 · 13/12/2024 22:01

Tell him to go and find one?

Sallysoup · 13/12/2024 23:15

Just show him?

Bjorkdidit · 14/12/2024 07:52

If that budget is £2k pp and you go in low season, I'm sure you'll find something.

But that's probably not what you're after is it?

Like a PP says, just let him go online and find out for himself but make sure you sense check whatever he finds before committing or else you might find that he's booked to go in rainy season and fly with ridiculous stopovers so it takes 2 days to get there.

Slightly- DHs opinion is stuck in the past and prices have risen but I show him the costs and say well this is how much flights to South Africa cost, if you want to go in the time we both have off work that’s the price or for the budget you suggested we can do XX instead.

Soccermumamir · 15/12/2024 07:43

If he can find one for that price, please tell him to share it with us as we're obviously doing something wrong 😆

itsgettingweird · 15/12/2024 07:55

Ask him where he's finding these holidays and tell him to book it asap!

3luckystars · 15/12/2024 08:30

There’s one way he will find out the reality, as above, let him book it himself. Don’t be turning yourself inside out trying to please him, you are setting yourself up. Good luck,

LoudSnoringDog · 15/12/2024 10:06

It would take him all of 5 minutes on google to see that he is deluded

atotalshambles · 15/12/2024 13:08

Think you would struggle with that budget in Cornwall if you go in school holidays! Holidays have become super expensive.

GermanBite · 15/12/2024 13:10

Let him arrange the family holidays. Problem solved.

Mumistiredzzzz · 15/12/2024 13:11

What's the problem, just show him what the costs would actually work out to.

Pigeonqueen · 15/12/2024 13:44

Tell him that’s lovely dear, here’s the website for Butlins / Centre Parcs / Haven. (All of which are absolutely fine btw, we’re going to Haven in August ourselves but £2000 for a week for a family is about the right mark for that sort of holiday)!

wizzywig · 15/12/2024 13:46

My husband's the same. He doesn't think anything apart from himself is worth the price. So he can't compute that someone would charge £100 a night for their airbnb. As they aren't worthy

How much does he charge for himself?

How much does he charge for himself?

My husband has a massive ego and so he probably does know his hourly rate!!
