I'm booked on a short trip to Germany with a friend later this week and I am having serious doubts about travelling with this person . BA won't refund as it's too late, but apparently neither will they allow him to board the plane without me or check in to the hotel because I'm the lead passenger. I booked it.

I don't understand why he can't use his flight or the hotel, we both paid 50/50 for this trip.
Any advice? I have travel insurance.

Thanks

Are you sure that’s correct about the flight?

According to the chap I spoke with on the BA disability line yesterday. I was surprised. I thought he could travel without me

Travel insurance won't cover you changing your mind. Surely you just check the other person in online and forward them the boarding passes? Is the hotel part of a package? Can you email them direct to change the name on the room.

Is he disabled and you are a ‘carer’. ? Just wondering why you were talking to the disability people at BA?

SeaToSki I'm the one with the disability.
LIZS good point, maybe I can just do that.

@wherehaveallthegoodfolkgone

Some airlines have 'companion fares' that are cheaper, sometimes significantly, if the 'companion' is traveling as the 'companion/carer' of a disabled passenger. If your friend has such a fare, no, they won't let him board without you since you are the reason he's paying a lower fare. If so, maybe they'l let him convert to full fare, but he'd have to pay the difference.

AcrossthePond55, I had no idea. Thanks for this.

I suggest going onto BA chat and explaining the situation and asking again, if you have both paid regular prices I see why your friend can’t fly. Then like a PP said contact the hotel and explain the situation to them and see if your friend can still check in.
