Help me plan a Swedish Summer!

Hi!
I've a friend in Gothenburg who I'm hoping to meet up with next summer (2025) and I'm wondering if anybody has any particular suggestions as to what we can do together! We don't drink, we are both adventurous (I'm not sporty but I don't mind hiking...) We like food (she loves Asian cuisine!) I am keen to explore, maybe even visit nearby Oslo!

If anyone has specific ideas in mind or advice on what to do and what to avoid, it would be most welcome.

Also I am planning to spend some time alone in that area, so what are some good things that can be done alone?

Any other information about Sweden and places to visit within the country or nearby countries are most welcome, please feel free to share anything and everything from best time to visit and specific places to try out.

Thank you.

I’ve just had a summer in Gothenburg! I would highly recommend getting a public transport pass, zone A should be fine, which will allow travel on trams, buses and ferries including to the surrounding archipelagos which are stunning! Take your swim stuff and a hearty picnic on these days out and you will have an amazing time. Sunsets are particularly beautiful viewed from the archipelagos.

The art museum in the centre is also wonderful, I ended going 3 times it has so much stuff! The other museums are just as good.

I also highly recommend slottsskogen which is a free public garden with penguins! And the botanical gardens are also very nice.

I did loads of things alone and it was absolutely fine. I would often get a drink and sit by the riverside in the centre or eat in a restaurant.

One thing is that we found that Swedish people didn’t really eat or drink outside/ walking around! Most people would go to a cafe and have fika, as in they really treasured the act of nourishing themselves and it shouldn’t be wasted on walking around.

Oslo is 300km / 3 hours away from Gothenburg, so not really "nearby" if you were only planning a day trip.
