French campsite - walkable to see and town - does this exist?

Think I want something that doesn't exist, but here goes! Looking for a eurocamp/canvas/yelloh type place for next August with the following (in ideal land!)...

-Needs to be no more than 4/5hrs from St Malo

  • walkable to beach
  • walkable to a town or at least a couple of restaurants
  • some slides and pool fun for a 6 and 2 year old
  • generally have a nice, holiday vibe for some holiday starved parents!

Does this exist? Like the look of a few of the yelloh villages but they all seem to be quite far from towns.

On a separate point, can someone explain to me what the fuss about La Garangeoire is all about?! I see it mentioned alllll the time! TIA

*Apologies for the see/sea typo, I can't change it!

Have a look at Siblu. I think their Vendee parks are close to beach and resort. We've been to La Carabasse a couple of times which is 5 mins walk to town and beach - but not that close to St Malo. You could fly there and manage without a car though.

The Vendée, on France’s west coast, is one of the country's sunniest regions, and blessed with miles of sandy beaches. Our holiday parks in the Vendee are also to reach and great for families.

have a look at ukcampsites.co.uk. they used to have reviews of loads.

la garangeoiure is a good site - went quite a few years ago. had decent facilities such as swimming/bar. good bands played a couple of nights. most pitches a decent size and had football pitch/coaching (some time ago). didnt like vendee as not as pretty as brittany.

We always like the carnac area - south brittany - as countryside/towns pretty and weather slightly better than north brittany.

les deux fontaines was walkable to beach, not sure about restaurants though think there was one on site. most sites had pools/bars....or ones we went to anyway

google when the french start their hols and try and steer clear of travelling that weekend

SweepTheHalls · 09/12/2024 15:30

St Jean du Mont is lovely in the Vendée and has lots of great campsites

MollyRover · 09/12/2024 15:47

Sunelia campsites. We go to Le Fief in Normandy every couple of years and absolutely love it.

Rosebudwater · 09/12/2024 18:48

Thanks for all the suggestions, will get googling!

Le Port de Plaisance is on the outskirts of Bénodet in Finestere. Walking distance to beach and lots of restaurants and various pools, slides and a high ropes park on site. We really liked it.

Carnac
... Look at camping des menhirs - I think it ticks all your boxes.

TwoLeggedGrooveMachine · 10/12/2024 11:01

Another vote for Carnac/Trinite sur Mer area. Loads of campsites including a couple right in the beach in Trinite sur Mer. We stayed at Le Kervilor which was a little way out but we had bikes. There was a free shuttle bus into Trinite sur Mer near the entrance of the site.

Branleuse · 10/12/2024 11:12

eurocamp lets you search for stuff like car free holidays, direct beach access etc.

might be worth looking at places with river or lake beaches too

Numsmetty · 10/12/2024 11:20

I have heard good things about camping in Bénodet.. not sure exactly which campsite but definitely heard of one which would tick all your boxes. We stayed in Les deux Fontaines, (after reading about it here!) beautiful location with a nice, mainly off road walk to the beach. Our gang had a great time and made lots of friends. But we did use the car when going to the nearby town.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/12/2024 11:35

@Simplegazette we stayed there when our son was quite young g so admittedly a long time ago but was going to suggest the same site .

Rosebudwater · 10/12/2024 13:14

Thanks all, this is so great. Narrowed it down to somewhere in trinitite sur mer or benodet I think, both look beautiful.

In terms of our kids making friends, can any seasoned campers tell me if there are there usually some English speakers in camps that aren't promoted by eurocamp (eg if we went for a Sandaya or Yelloh camp). Don't need complete Brits abroad, but want the kids to be able to make friends fairly easily (as much as I love that ep of Bluey).

Thanks!

If you stay within driving distance of the ferry port then definitely, the further south you go from Paris the less likely it is you'll find more diverse campsites in my experience. Many websites give an indication of which languages the animation teams can communicate in. We're a bilingual family (not French) and English seems to be the second language after French luckily!

snoopyfanaccountant · 11/12/2024 22:13

Another vote for Des Menhirs in Carnac.

Abracadabra1 · 11/12/2024 22:18

Benodet is lovely, camping du Letty is nice, not that big though.

Winter41 · 11/12/2024 22:23

We went to Sandaya cote de nacre a couple.of years ago which ticks your boxes.

dreamingofsun · 12/12/2024 08:26

forgot to say, one of the things you should try and look for are large pitches. you ideally dont want to be squashed in with your neighbours. we did loads of BBQ's and a lot of the places have restaurants/takeaways on site. so walking distance to a non resort restaurant wasnt so important.

OnyourbarksGSG · 12/12/2024 08:33

Why to domaine de la yole in Beziers last year. Mega cheap fights, booked taxis from the airport and it was only 10 minutes transfers, loads of slides , bike hire and entertainment etc, beach on the doorstep and the bus to Beziers was right outside. Bus also went to the huge supermarket . It was brilliant to be honest and cost us £110 each for a week in June. I inside you are looking at a fair bit more for August but when I priced it up you could still get a caravan for £800 ish a week in August
