Travel insurance question

Dd has an annual policy but it says 45 day trip max. She’s planning to go to Asia for two months. If she’s going to different countries I’m assuming it’s too much of a stretch to say it’s a new trip when she changes countries?

if so can she use the annual policy for the first 45 days and get a one off policy for the last bit?

She can probably pay a surcharge with her existing provider.

Just pay the extra premium to upgrade the existing policy to 60 days

No, because travel insurance is dependent on you starting and finishing the whole trip from and to the U.K. If you do what you are planning, she won’t be starting in the U.K.

Thanks, I didn’t know she could upgrade it. I’ll contact them and ask.

She needs to contact them, some may allow her to upgrade it but others will not and she will need a policy for the entire time because generally insurance must start and end at home. There is specialist insurance for extending a trip but is likely to be very expensive

45 days is the maximum trip length, so if she is away longer then the insurance will not cover anything at all, it will invalidate it. She needs to have a policy that covers the full amount of days she is due to be away. You can’t just top it up with another policy.

I work in insurance. I would call them and ask to upgrade. You can’t do the add-on new policy thing. Xx

My bank account's (HSBC premier) travel insurance allows extensions (for a fee) for longer trips - there is an online form to complete as an alternative to calling them.
I would get a quote from them AND quotes for a separate policy covering the entire trip, it might be cheaper.
(Definitely do not get a separate policy just for the add on bit, the existing insurance won't be valid).
