Things in London for 7 month old?

Hello there,

I've just gone back to work f/t, so my guilty conscience is telling me that doing lots of cool things is v important. My DH is only 7 months but very curious and interested in everything. We've been to the Aquarium and the Zoo and the South Bank. Anywhere in fairly central London you'd recommend? Cheers!

One of the city farms? I spent a lot of time at mudchute farm around that age, I know there is a quite good one at Hackney as well. In summer a boat trip down to Greenwich and back is also quite doable.

(be prepared for people to pile in and tell you that 7 month olds don't get any value from the acquarium, zoo etc. FWIW that wasn't my experience)

simple stuff is best - feeding ducks in Hyde Park was a huge hit with my DS at that age.

I agree - no harm at all in finding something to stimulate you and DK even at 7 months.

Diana Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens, Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, Spitalfields Farm, Brilliant Kids in Kensal Green, walks on Hampstead Heath (loads of ducks, swans, squirrels, wood pigeons, parakeets, woodlice under logs and all that stuff), Discover in Stratford (East End) are all great and have something to interest children even before they can crawl.

Nice to have fun whilst you are at it. Tbh, once my dcs could walk, there was nothing more fascinating than STAIRS. I don't think you really need to go very far to find someting stimulating for a baby that young.

That's all really helpful and nice! Thanks. I agree that a 7 month old can't really take that much in, but mine always seems endlessly fascinated by being somewhere new and looking at things. Also it's good for me! Thanks guys. I meant to say DS by the way - my DH is not 7 months as you guessed...

I see you're in Islington - a trip out to Canary Wharf is not a bad idea either, if the weather's nice - there are sometimes free concerts on weekday lunchtimes (not sure whether you are back at work full time?), the fountains are endlessly fascinating for babies, and there are boats etc to look at: not to mention the fact that you can go shopping.

also - have you seen the thread about the city workers lunchtime meet up on Friday 9th May? Have a look under meet ups - I am going to try and make it (depending on venue) but can vouch for the friendlyness of those of the other attendees that I've met at previous meet ups!

Corams fields, near Russell square, has a nice sandpit and animals and a sensory walk and you can have lunch in the Brunswick centre and fit in a trip to the British Museum in the same outing.

Just walking around Hyde Park, looking at ducks, that kind of thing is great with your DD, getting out and about, stopping somewhere for a coffee and watch the world go by, your dd wont need much more than this - get out and become familiar with surroundings for her, fresh air, and to spend time with you when you are able.

The Garden in the basement of the Science Museum - officially for 3-6 year olds but my son enjoyed it from about 8 months - get there early though as it gets very crowded (and take a change of clothes for him as there is water play).
