Hi ladies,

What would you suggest for a teen-friendly four-night holiday - Gran Canaria or Malta? (Which areas are the best?)

I am looking for a good, safe, warm location with good transport links and proximity to restaurants and the beach, as I can't drive.

Please share your experiences. Thanks in advance 🙏

I can't speak for Malta but I suspect the weather will be better in Gran Canaria at this time of year, I lived there for 3 years so if you have any specific questions ask away.

I would recommend Meloneras as a resort it's got a beach you can swim at and is nice and modern, some parts of GC are a bit run down now. It also has lots of shops in that resort and good transport links, the bus system is really good.

Puerto de Mogan is lovely but maybe for a day trip.

Maspalomas in Gran Canaria. It's close to the airport so you won't have a long transfer, and you could visit the amazing sand dunes which my dc found pretty awesome!

Thanks so much for your reply. So you would recommend Meloneras as a good area to stay. I am thinking of staying for four nights—will that be enough? Also, how is the connectivity to local attractions and other nearby ones? Any advice on what to see and what could be avoided? And could you recommend any resorts, please? Apologies for so many questions. Thanks so much in advance. ☺️

4 nights is enough but it is a mid haul flight so just over 4 hours. 5 would be better if possible.

In terms of attractions, you have a good public transport network to get all across the south of the island and to the capital Las palmas. Main attractions on the island would be a trip to see the maspalomas sand dunes, an island tour inland (gran canaria is known as a miniature continent due to its biosphere) Puerto De Mogan is a very pretty fishing village that has a good submarine trip. Really depends on what you are into.

Puerto Rico and Playa Del Ingles are the biggest resorts but melonares is the most modern (some amazing hotels too depending on your budget) the lopesan baobab is lovely and good for kids too.

Feel free to ask any more questions, I will help if I can. Also taxis are widely available and reasonably priced.

Whilst Malta is great, we had a fab holiday, I don't think it's what you are looking for. There is plenty to do, but beaches are very few and far between, locals (and probably tourists) sunbathe on rocks and jump off those into the sea. There are a handful of beaches at the Gozo end of Malta, but that's not in the vicinity of any of the main sightseeing on offer.
