Canaries in late March or somewhere else

Looking for a week away in the last week of March for my sister and I.
Keep coming back to looking at the Canaries due to budget, which is maximum £1000 each for all inclusive.
Debated Egypt or Morocco but my sister isn't well travelled and is a very nervous person and I think she'd feel overwhelmed in those options.
I can't find anywhere else that fits our budget that is warm enough but I keep hearing different opinions on Canary Islands weather in March.
Does anyone have experience of which islands have the most chance of better weather? The only island I won't return to is Lanzarote.

February and March are the worst months for the Canary Islands. Egypt with the war in Israel isn't ideal. What about Oman? Gambia or other African destinations?

I’ve been to Lanzarote in feb half term, one year was lovely then next not great. I wouldn’t do Egypt or morrocco. How about Cape Verde?

AttilaTheMeerkat · 21/11/2024 14:24

Cape Verde is completely underdeveloped, there is nothing much outside the resort hotels.

I would look further at Tenerife.

BuffyLovesSpike · 21/11/2024 14:37

What about Madeira? I've been in February half term and it was dry and warm. It's really beautiful and loads to do.

Dartmoorcheffy · 21/11/2024 15:13

I've been to lanzarote a few times in Feb and March and it's always been lovely. Not scorching but certainly t-shirt weather and comfortable sitting by the pool. (Go for a heated pool though)

I've been to Lanzarote the last 3 March's and have had excellent weather. One day it was pretty torrential rain for a couple of hours and then the sun was right back out. Sunbathed everyday including a couple of hours on the beach. We're going to Gran Canaria next March.

Based on your requirements fuerteventura is a good option, it's not the most exciting destination but you can get a 4 star hotel with a sandy beach for your money and if you choose a through tour operator eg TUI you can go their plan, their coach transfer to their hotel making it predictable for an inexperienced traveller.

I've never been in March though so look at the typical weather for each of the islands. We like Tenerife ourselves but it a bit more rough around the edges which I get the feeling your sister would prefer to avoid.

Alternatively look at Cyprus, Sicily perhaps but it's pretty season so might be a lot of places closed

mitogoshigg · 21/11/2024 15:27

Don't go to Madeira if you are nervous fliers - it's a tough place to land so can be bumpy.

Would you consider a canaries cruise? You can get an ai cruise in late March with Marella (TUI) for your budget. I did it last year, was good

I'll have a look at Oman and Gambia, thank you

I have been looking at Cape Verde, however for our budget I can't seem to find a hotel with good reviews

Thank you. Fuerteventura is looking a good option. I'll also look into Tenerife.
I went to Cyprus in March a few years ago and it was decidedly chilly, so I'll not risk it in March again even though I know it's usually warmer than home then

I have had lovely weather in the canaries in feb. I would agree with fuerteventura as easy to get around but enough to do

greenrollneck · 21/11/2024 23:10

Morocco is the same distance flight wise, but warmer as there is no sea breeze.

And if you look at hotels that are all inclusive you can easily go there and not see any of the actual country? If you have a nervous traveler.

Also it's the same time zone as the UK so great for not loosing any hours.

Lincslady53 · 21/11/2024 23:38

We had a week at the Radisson Blu hotel in Costa Teguise in March this year. It was very windy on the first day, then 6 days of hot, sunny weather. The hotel is brilliant. Adults only, good rooms, large balconies with sunbeds, 4 pools, spa, gym good food. We found Teguise a bit too English for our taste, but still had a brilliant week. Doing the same in Fuerteventura next March. We booked the hotel direct and flights from Ryanair and it was several hundred pounds cheaper than booking a package,it is only 15mins taxi from the airport.

Notimeforaname · 24/11/2024 00:41

Went to Fuerteventura last March. It was lovely. Warm every day. Quite hot at times.

friendlycat · 24/11/2024 00:46

Canaries are usually lovely in March. Gran Canaria especially.

woffley · 24/11/2024 17:26

Why all inclusive?
If you look at the same hotel half board you will find it £100s cheaper. Unless you are very heavy drinkers AI not worth it IMO.
