Tenerife Self catering or food included?

Will be on a chemo break in January and a thinking of going with two early twenties nieces. Obviously I would like not to share a room with them as I know there will be nightlife. However it’s going to cost me £800 to have my own room so quite a step up. I do like the thought of a breakfast included and it’s along time since I’ve been to Tenerife so don’t really know the prices. I want to be looked after and do my own thing. I know it might not be warm enough which is also putting me off about. Any recommendations?

We did half board when we went to Lanzarote. I can recommend that.

You fill up on breakfast then have a lunch time snack, fruit, ice-cream then big dinner later. Food was excellent where we were and a big variety.

Id is really a holiday of you have to organise all the cooking?

I found Lanzarote far cheaper than Tenerife but we were Costa Adeje so other resorts might be cheaper

Half board is probably a good option as won't be as noisy as an ai resort

It's worth popping into a TUI shop and explaining the situation, I don't mean full on sob story but you never know, they may have some sort of deal to waive the single person supplement, after all 2 rooms are being booked

As a pp said go half board.
Weather in January is usually early 20's.
Comfortable to walk around and still warm enough to sit and chill.
Which area will you be staying in.

I love self catering in Tenerife as there are so many lovely restaurants, however we normally stay in the Los cristianos end

Is there night life in January?
Genuine question.

EachandEveryone · 13/11/2024 14:01

Absolutely no waivering with the single supplement and I honestly can’t do the sofa bed thing. Part of me thinks sod it and take it out of my savings but then the other part thinks if I’m going to do that I should wait until it’s warmer. Not that I can use the pools because of my lines.

Agree with HB, or at the very least a nice hotel with B&B. If you pick a hotel with entertainment you can do that on your own if they want to go out.
I go every year in January though usually Lanzarote.
January is likely to be warm and sunny during the day and cooler in the evening. Think May in the UK during the day but October in the evening.
Too cold to swim unless you are hardy.
T shirts and shorts day time and long trousers and fleece evenings.

There is night life in January, not as busy but there's always somewhere with live music which is what I like. DS2 (25) went to Costa adeje in January and had a great time.

When we've gone to Tenerife on a package holiday we've always done the sums and decided that half board is better value than either AI (we don't drink much and are usually away from the hotel all day) or B&B/SC. Having dinner in the hotel also means you won't have the extra task of choosing a place to eat and going out if you're tired in the evenings.

The temperature is likely to be very pleasant and a lovely change from the British winter in the south of the island in January. The north (Puerto de la Cruz etc.) is cooler.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do.

It might be cheaper booking for 4 people rather than 3

EachandEveryone · 13/11/2024 16:46

It’s only £29 to go half board so will be doing that. It’s just the extra for my own room plus £800 insurance it’s nearly Dubai prices after all that
