I might not be much help as I cannot remember exact costs but I was there earlier in the year

the canal tour was lovely and 18 euro
meals out were same price at home really
there was a nice flea market and I picked up a silver ring for about 30 euro

there’s a bell tower, waffle and pancake houses, very pretty confectionery shops (macaroons I remember were expensive eg 20 euro for a few)

the place so so nice that just a walk around and so on is free and picture perfect- so I’d say to you it could be as cheap or as expensive as you choose yourself - have a lovely time

@Spagettifunctional

That's so nice thankyou , I'm looking forward to it and the canal was one of the trips I wanted to do.

I think eating out in Belgium has got more pricey recently. I would say for a coffee/croissant type breakfast probably about 5 euros and may 15 euros if you want ham and eggs. 5 euros for a waffle. Main courses in restaurants - depends what you have, I would say around 20 euros upwards. A portion of chips and mayo probably 4 euros. Historium is quite good. Boat trip as previously mentioned. I've done the Haalve Mann brewery tout a couple of times. It's a lovely place to just wander around the main.

I would also recommend the Bell Tower and the canal trip.
I saw some people doing horse and cart rides which might be fun too depending on what you enjoy.
I went a few months ago and eating out prices were similar to the UK.
I agree with the other posters who have said even just wandering round & going for a stroll is lovely as its such a beautiful place. If you are there for 4 days you could also pop to Gent too.
Try to watch the movie 'In Bruge' before you go, it shows loads of the places and will make it more fun when you get there and recognise some of it.

How long is a piece of strung ? You can eat in expensive restauarnts or cheap cafes. I dont feel its an overly exoenaive place personally

Personally think 4 days just doing Bruges Is about 2 too many and I'd consider side trips to Antwerp or Ghent. Plus bear in mind attractions are shut on Mondays.

Boat trip plus bell tower are must dos. Make sure you have watched In Bruges before you go.

Other options are art gallery (small but perfect), couple of big churches. One has a Michaelangelo sculpture which they are very proud of but we thought was a bit dull.

I’m assuming the Christmas markets will have started when you are there. They are not huge but a good place to have a drink or snack. The smaller one had some nice stalls if you want to buy things.

There is usually a light trail to follow around the city. You can download a map or just follow the blue lanterns.

Restaurants cost around the same as here.

I agree that you may find 4 days too long, not sure how easy it is to get to other towns from there.

If you don’t want to climb all the way up one of the towers, there is a bar in the same building as the Historium museum with a terrace that has good views over the square/Christmas market

Worldgonecrazy · 14/11/2024 07:21

Mr Sandwich does reasonably priced snacks. Worth going to se the owner, a polyglot, in action.

The bell tower is great if you are fit.

Brewery tours are interesting.

I agree with just wandering around. It’s a beautiful place.

I don't remember it being particularly expensive, similar to other European prices or ours eating out. Museums etc you can look up

Thanks everyone.

I loved our weekend there, lovely little cafes and bars. The only downside for me was we went in May and I thought it would be warmer, but it was really cold! So had to make a few extra purchases of wooly jumpers and scarves.

It was quite rainy when I was there for the Christmas market last year but absolutely magical. It’s a Beautiful city, Even away from the markets and in residential areas there are lots of lights and decorations

Do you have a car? The Passchendaele museum or also the Flanders Museum in Ypres are definitely worth a visit and it is an easy drive.

I know lots of people love Ghent but I preferred Bruges a lot more.

Restaurants directly at the square are the most expensive ones, we styaed near the Koningin Astrid park and there are some nice ones which I found a less overpriced.

We found this too - ended up wearing every layer we had packed.

We rented a bike for half a day which cost around 10 € and rode along the canal to Damme in the Netherlands. It was great to think we were cycling to another country and as it was all flat it was easy for the children. We rode past beautiful landscapes filled with cows, windmills etc and stopped for a sandwich on the way. This and the canal boat trip were the highlights of our trip.
Also, we tried so many chocolate shops but our favourite by far was Olivier just off the main square
