Is it OK? I mean, does the bag always get to your destination OK?

We used it the first time in June with Jet2. Brilliant. Will be doing the same next year too.

edit my case did get broken, but it wasn’t by Jet2, it was the minibus driver from the airport hotel! jet2 staff were great, wrapped it up tight free of charge, made sure my case was secured and that it would survive the journey.

As likely as any other timeGrin. If you live near the airport or staying the night before nearby and are travelling with dc it's pretty good but personally I don't bother because parking at the airport is £££ for even 30 mins to drop the bags, not worth it for able bodied adults

I used the one in Gatwick in October. It worked fine. (I was heading to Tivat.)

Just to add that I was a bit nervous about it all, but there were Easyjet personnel in the area, and they helped me.

I've used the Jet 2 service, and it was great. They even give you a ticket so you get free parking at the airport while you drop off your bags! But you do need to live moderately close to the airport to justify the time taken there and back (or be in an airport hotel overnight).

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/11/2024 16:13

We used the Jet2 twilight drop off once last December .

Loads of people were doing it and everyone on our flights cases arrived the next day.

Forgot to add that the machine lets you request a receipt for your luggage. I didn't realise until the Easyjet chap pointed this out.

Used it with Tui and it was awesome.

Also, I watched them loading the bags on to the plane. Ours was on last, which meant it was off first. Happy days all round.

It's just luck isn't it. Most of the time, it's going to be fine. If you're the unlucky person who's case goes missing, you're going to blame the twilight service an not use it again.

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 10/11/2024 17:08

I also used the Gatwick easyJet one and had the same reservations. I was convinced there would somehow be more scope for error this way.

But it was great. There were helpful staff on hand to assist, no queue and all bags arrived in the usual way. We were staying at the Premier Inn so no extra parking charges either as we had arrived by train and still needed to catch a shuttle bus to the hotel either way.

Ezekiela · 10/11/2024 18:57

We have a very early flight so will be staying in an airport hotel overnight. Otherwise wouldn't bother as we don't live close enough.

My suitcase doesn't lock so I suppose I'm a bit worried that it's more likely to get rifled through in the storage area overnight whereas normally there is less time with it sitting around. Obviously there's nothing particularly valuable in it.

I live close to an airport and have used this service from there with Tui 3 times now, it's been brilliant and makes an early flight so much less stressful.

Bjorkdidit · 10/11/2024 19:27

I'd be surprised if anyone working at an airport is going to risk their job by rifling through other people's suitcases, the vast majority of which are filled with second hand clothes in a different size and often age and sex to the potential thief.

The chances of finding something worthwhile must be almost zero.

Cases handed over at twilight check in will just go into a secure holding area behind the scenes at the airport, which is CCTV central.

I know jet2 have their own baggage handlers, it could well be that easyjet do too.

TwistedWonder · 10/11/2024 21:37

I’ve used the night before drop off service many times with various airlines at both Gatwick and Stansted and never had a problem.

Ezekiela · 20/11/2024 04:32

Update: it worked beautifully and I would do it again if we stayed at the airport. There were several flights leaving early morning so it was great to skip the bag drop queue and go straight to security.

Just thought I would bump this thread as it's holiday season and people might be wondering about it.

We've done twilight bag drop a couple more times with different airlines and I'm a total convert. The queues are short or non-existent, you get to deal with real humans, not just machines, and you can have half an hour extra lie-in next morning before strolling straight to security.

On the down side, the last couple of times, our bags have been last off at the other end, probably because they were first on.
