Travel Insurance

I've just had my travel insurance cancelled after a recent heart attack. I've tried some others and they're either saying they can't insure me or the premium is sky high.
Anyone recommend anywhere to try.

Try cover for you. I haven’t had a heart attack but what I liked about them is you can chat to them , the guy I spoke to was Brendan and very helpful

Staysure. They specialise in cover for people with pre-existing conditions. I've been with them for years, but I've also heard good things about Cover For You mentioned by PP.

But no one will cover you (or they'll put a very high loading on you if they do) if you're still under investigation or you haven't been transferred back to the care of your GP from the specialist. I've had some very frustrating periods where delays in getting investigations for minor things coinciding with policy renewal has resulted in all my previous conditions being excluded until things are closed out.

I use InsureWith for cover for my heart condition

This what I'm finding. I'm awaiting an MRI as no other tests show any obvious reason for the heart attack and the consultant wants a closer look as a precaution.

Been on the phone all morning and having no luck.

I'm afraid you're stuffed until the investigations are concluded. No insurer will take the bet when the risk is an unknown. I would cancel or postpone any international travel plans until the consultant releases you back to your GP.

For our conditions Avanti was the cheapest, the only one that was under £1k for the Carribbean.

It amazes how much extra you have to pay. Have you ever been diagnosed with X, Y or Z and I bet the vast majority of people diagnosed have been medicated or have had an operation. For instance my husband had a heart attack , he's unlikely to have another as it was caused by a congenital abnormality with his heart valves which was corrected surgically. My high blood pressure is now under control so I'm less of a risk than someone who has high BP but has not had a diagnosis.

Thought I'd post an update......

Most companies were a strict no, we won't insure you.
One was really nice though and he called me back to tell me he had tried a Google search and found a few that might help.
I was accepted by Goodtogo, £230 for a single trip.

Good to know OP, I'll look at them next time.

I have multiple health issues and find I can get insurance with most companies but not if awaiting tests. I've had to cancel holidays because of tests for undiagnosed conditions.
Staysure are heavily promoted but I find them more expensive than most. I currently pay £450 for an annual policy with Holiday Extras.

After my heart attack it only went up by £44 to £79, then they decided to send me for an MRI and that changed the game.

My mil uses Saga. It's not cheap though.

I'd bet a chicken dinner that "Caribbean" was the significant factor in that premium loading.

Saga would not cover pre-existing medical conditions while awaiting tests, even though the test is only related to my recent scare.

I used GoodToGo this year. I've had cancer. They were by far the best value. I've also used Staysure in the past but needed 5 of us on one policy this year and Staysure were £££.

I would always point out on threads like this that what really matters is not just the cost of insurance but how they deal with claims
It's one of my bugbears that travel insurers invite reviews from people who have just bought their product and there are pages of glowing reviews .... about the purchase process. It's extremely difficult to find reviews of claims. Only people with a very bad experience tend to review.Plus all companies outsource their claims handling to a few specialist medical claim handling firms.I have a lot of pre-existing medical conditions and my annual policy is usually around £450 for me and DH. I find the specialist insurers like Staysure are often more expensive. I'd be happy to pay a bit more if I was confident of the claims service but I've seen a lot of bad experiences with them on MN alone.Only claimed once, years ago when a DC was ill and it was a nightmare. That policy was with Virgin Money but was handled by some company in Ireland.
