Really special family holiday - is it possible?

I'm in need of inspiration. It's my husbands 50th next year and I would like to splash out and gift him a really special holiday. The problem is we have two small children (3 and 5) so I need to find something that also works for them.

We are based in Buckinghamshire and have never flown with them but we could attempt it for something really cool.

I'm struggling for ideas! Please help!

Venice is lovely. I went as a child and just remember being spell bound by wandering by the water and the fact that buses and taxis were all boats!

Friends with a five year old went to the Borgo Egnazia, Puglia and said it was amazing.

Depends what you want. Greece and the Balearics have great all inclusive deals. Greece has the history. Rhodes old town and Lindos acropolis are fantastic. Also boat trips and water slides and kids activities. Go at October half term and the sea is warm, it's quieter and the temp is around 25degrees not 45.

Ostia Antica is next door to Rome airport and outrageous. Maybe do that rather than Rome itself on the day you head home? Miles and miles of archaeology

Lake Garda in Italy is gorgeous. Look up Parco Termale del Garda - absolutely beautiful outdoor natural pools. I went there with some family (including young kids) about ten years ago and it was SO lovely.

Here is the website link www.villadeicedri.it/eng/parco-termale.php

Not sure what time of year you're talking about, but your DH sounds like he likes the great outdoors so what about Iceland? Short flight, family friendly, safe. Fun things for both kids and DH to do - which kid doesn't love a geyser or hot pools? or whale watching?

You can't go wrong with Mallorca. Get away from Palma though - somewhere like Port Soller.
Rome - No! have just come back from there. It was HEAVING. The ancient ruins would just go over the heads of a 3 and 5 yr old. Doesn't sound like DHs bag either. Similarly, Venice would be a nightmare getting around with a buggy.
Lake Garda/Verona - Yes

I would totally avoid Rome next year because of the Jubilee.

Grindelwald in Switzerland. If you go in the summer then there is walking, playgrounds, go karting, all sorts. The restaurants are mostly kid friendly and there is a sports centre with swimming and ice skating. If you look on VRBO or Airbnb there are some decently prized apartments and chalets with two/three bedrooms.

Also, it's beautiful.

Another vote for Lake Garda given what he likes.

The Alps or Dolomites might also be lovely?

A nice Kinderhotel in Austria/Tirol perhaps so you get childcare on tap and can have some adult meals/walks?

I would do an alaska cruise. Kids clubs for the kids, pick a cruise line that does nature talks . Loads walking and nature spotting during port days
