TUI holiday changes - our rights

BG2015 · 31/10/2024 19:37

We've booked to go to Egypt next Easter and over the past month we have had 2 emails from TUI notifying us of changes to our booking

  1. It's been down graded from a 4T+ to a 4T
  1. WiFi is now payable at €120 for 2 weeks, previously the information said it was free.

What are our rights if we want to change accommodation?

I'm going to ring up tomorrow anyway but just wondered what our rights are?

I would expect they would honour the free WiFi agreement, that's what it was advertised ad. Also could argue for a small refund to compensate for change in rating

I don't believe either of these would be considered a major change under the package travel regulations tbh. The T rating is Tui's assessment of the standard and is subjective anyway (presumably there's no change to facilities, rooms etc and official ratings is the same so you are still getting what you booked) , and the WiFi cost wouldn't generally be considered a major change.

It doesn't look like the changes are significant enough to have a huge impact on your holiday. I appreciate WiFi is important to a lot of people but PTR wouldn't count it as a main component of the holiday.
That said, I would push for a move to a suitable hotel which ticks the boxes as there'll be plenty of availability at this stage. I'd be prepared to call with a hotel in mind that would be suitable, but I wouldn't be shocked if you didn't get anywhere.

@EnglishGirlApproximately that's what I'm inclined to think. All the other hotels are coming up as £200-300 more each per person so it's not great as we aren't willing to pay that much extra. It would be cheaper to just pay the wifi when we 're there.

It's just annoying that they're charging for wifi when it's now a given throughout many hotels in the world.

I used to work in customer relations for Airtours and neither of them changes would be considered major changes triggering free cancellation or compensation. The terms and conditions will have changed since my time, but if you read them, they will inform you. You could ask for a gesture of goodwill such as they pay for the WiFi, or a free room upgrade etc. the margins are so small on holidays they may prefer to let you cancel for free as it will cost them less so make sure you can find something comparable before you do. For example any free child places will be long gone by now.

I guess it depends how important WiFi is if it's worth the hassle for you? Although we've come to expect WiFi Z standard it still really isn't a given in a lot of places and wouldn't be considered a major component of the package.
You definitely won't get a foc cancellation but if try to ask for a goodwill gesture. That said, TUI give very little away!
