Leave or take a 23 month old to Disneyland

We are thinking of taking our 4 year old (she will be 5 in Sept) to Disneyland Paris in June before she starts school. Should I leave (with grandparents) or take her brother who will be 23 months?

I would wait a couple of years. Imagine your younger one looking at all the happy family photos in years to come but they were excluded.

leave or wait till they are both old enough to enjoy it.

Your 4 year old won’t remember much of it, and your younger child definitely won’t.

I agree with @BibbityBobbityToo seems odd to just take one child but don't think it would be overly fun to take a 23 month old. We waited until our youngest was 4 and went in half term.

Took youngest age 3 and it was all forms of hell on earth. It’s so busy and he was getting so excited and trying to run off all the time, also the queuing, the non stop fear of him pulling away and getting lost, all the walking, the tiredness, especially if you want to wait for the show at night which is amazing, absence of affordable healthy snacks … went when he was 7 and it was so different.

edited to add he doesn’t remember much of the time he went aged 3

We took our dcs at similar ages and they both had an absolute blast. Toddler could go on almost all the rides that my eldest went on. For the ones where she was too young, DH would take the eldest and I would take the youngest to a quieter ride or she would be napping. They both loved the parade and all the sights. DH took the eldest to see the evening show, but the toddler was ready for bed by then and I stayed with her in the hotel.

We took buggies for both dcs (very common to bring buggies for kids up to age 6 as there is so much walking) so that helped stop tiredness tantrums, and also had our own snack supplies. Eldest qualifies for a disability pass so no long queues (I would definitely pay for one if we didn't have the disability pass).

I wouldn't have wanted to wait unless it was a one off trip and they wouldn't have the chance to go again when they're older. Mine are used to theme parks so it wasn't overwhelming or difficult for them.

If it makes a difference, the younger one will be free once you get there. I would take them both, but take a cheap double buggy.

Definitely take the little one

lavendarwillow · 27/10/2024 22:45

Take the little one. It doesn't matter if children don't remember in years to come, the main thing is not to put off and live for the moment.

snoopyfanaccountant · 28/10/2024 15:33

Take them both. We took both of ours at a similar age to your DS and they loved it.

I’ve taken my children several times now and my youngest has been at just 9 months old and 15 months old ( my oldest is 7 years older) and both times we survived! In fact we are going again in November when she will be 27 months old. There’s so much to do and it’s just magical for any age. It’s what you make of it. And the memories are for you not just them!

Wait till both older for sure, defo wait till frozen land is finished.

Aw take the little one! Some of the fondest memories of my life were taking our 22 month old to DLP. They were overawed by seeing Winnie the Pooh, Minnie Mouse etc (I did show them books and cartoons of the main characters before we went), gave them massive hugs, loved the rides and parades, pointed excitedly at everything. We have been since but never quite managed to capture the awe of the toddler visit! Please take lots of video of their reactions because they won't remember it but will like to watch it when they get older.

My DDs just loved playing on a beach at that age. They had no Disney input at all. Why not have a great beach holiday? We used to go to Brittany and never left a child at home.
