HI I'm looking for a destination for early February for a week, not half term, where the weather will be warm.

Ideally flight times will not be excessive and the area will not be a resort where you can't leave the hotel because of the location. We quite like being able to have a mooch around a place without being restricted to a hotel.

Definitely not UAE as we don't have any interest in Dubai.

This will be for 2 adults.

If anyone has any inspiration that would be great as I'm not sure whether such a location exists at that time of year.

We’re going to Costa Rica this February. Tui fly there so the flights are reasonable. We’re not staying in an all inclusive but a very small and friendly hotel and will mooch and sightsee for the week along with some relaxation. I expect the weather to be very warm and dry.

Yet another Barbados fan. We go every year in November(ish) and February or March. It’s absolutely beautiful. With a tail wind behind you it’s an easy 8 and a half hours. Whether you go on the morning or early afternoon flight (this is from Heathrow) you’ll be there in time for cocktails and dinner. Fab.

Marrakech. Loads to do, if you pick the right hotel you can have a lazy day by the pool. Will be cool morning & evening but afternoons will be mid 20s

Another vote for Oman, it's such a beautiful country and the locals are so kind and friendly.

Dubai is not a country...

Cape Verde? I wasn’t keen but I went many moons ago before it was hugely touristy I’ve know people who have been since and loved it. It will be hot
and only 7hours

Was there much to do there and could you swim in the sea, I’m looking for somewhere for January?

I don't think anyone said Dubai was a country?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, lots of great ideas, thank you.

@lifeturnsonadime You probably have to evaluate what you like most - short flights or somewhere unusual! We prefer somewhere unusual and would prioritise this over a shorter flight. Egypt (Nile cruise) would be great. Caribbean is obviously possible. 8 hours minimum. Beaches are great. However, I would suggest Cape Town, overnight flights both ways. 2 hours time difference. Great restaurants and not expensive. Fabulous places to visit and great wine! You could drive to the Winelands or somewhere like Knysna for somewhere different. Beats the Canary Islands!

How about the Spanish North African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla? You could have a wee jaunt into Morocco and it s got lots of Barbary related history while being compact and upto western standards.

We go to the Caribbean every February - usually Barbados. The weather is glorious at that time of year. Flight’s only 8.5 hours and with the time difference, you get about 5 hours back. We’re usually unpacked and on our first cocktails at about 4pm local time.

Sorry to butt in but any hotel recommendations? We are going on a cruise in feb but need a hotel/s first before and after!!

allistrvealed · 27/10/2024 17:08

Also my recommendation would be Cape Town- although a long flight no jet lag and loads to see and do Escogfry you enjoy wildlife great food and wine.

Chickydoo · 27/10/2024 17:20

Gambia, warm, shortish flight, same time zone as uk so no jet lag

BIWI · 27/10/2024 17:21

@allistrvealed how many people? What kind of hotel do you like? Do you want AI? Do you need to be near Bridgetown for your cruise ship?

allistrvealed · 27/10/2024 17:24

I started a new thread as felt bad about hijacking's this one!!!

I’d love to go to Cape Town but would worry about safety.

Favouritefruits · 27/10/2024 19:12

@WhitneyBaby no you can’t swim in the sea as it’s far too rough, when I went 10+ years ago there was nothing to do, we went on an island tour which consisted of ‘this is where a golf course will be built soon’ and ‘mirages’ on the road, we got taken to multi Tat shops too 🙄 unless you are looking for a complete relax by the pool holiday I wouldn’t recommend.

kirinm · 27/10/2024 21:00

I'd also say Cape Town - the flight is long but you can go overnight and sleep and wake up with no jet leg. The restaurants are amazing.

I also love Barbados / Antigua and agree that the flight doesn't feel that long.

This has just sent me down a google rabbit hole! I had no idea these places existed.

SurabayaMas · 27/10/2024 23:54

Barbary connected Spanish territories!
