Have a chance to go to France for a week in Spring. I need to fly in and out of one of the major airports. I've already been to Paris. Is there a town that I can get a train from one of the major cities with an airport that's a bit quieter? I love old architecture and cobbled streets. Thank you!

La Rochelle is on direct train from Paris CDG. Probably easy to get to from other airports too.

I think Dijon easy to get to by train.

This is great - thank you! Will spend some time at the weekend going through all the towns, their proximity to the larger airports and whether I can get trains/buses and the Eurostar options, and what's easiest. I'm thinking now of maybe making Toulouse a base and seeing other places as days outs but still have to look at all the other towns mentioned. I'm sure there will be one that I'll just fall in love with :)

Thanks to everyone! x

Toulouse has a good number of flights from several of the London airports, and you can certainly get good food there but it’s very much a tech/uni city and there isn’t really an significant old town area, though the Place du Capitole has good restaurants/cafes.

OTOH it’s not a bad base for the days out you mention since it’s decent rail hub for places such Carcassonne, Foix (to the south) and maybe Albi and/or Montauban.

Good Luck.
