Hotels in Provence

Hi all,

Was just looking at booking a few days in Provence next year, and to my dismay, our favourite hotel, that we have stayed in several times over the past 20 years, has just closed for good. This leaves me looking for somewhere new to stay.

What we're looking for;

Lively town - choice of restaurants, bars, shops. Interesting streets to wander around.
Central location - i.e. can just cross the road from the hotel to go and get pastries in the morning.
Pool.
Suites available so young teen can have his own bedroom, but not a separate hotel room.
Balcony - where we can have a nightcap. Nice view is a bonus.

I'm quite open on location, I would be interested in your suggestions. Budget isn't too important, but probably not more than €400 a night, preferably quite a bit less.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I am more familiar with the Var and Bouche de Rhone areas ( 83 and 13). Are you interested in beach or more inland? I live near Aix en Provence which is q lovely and lively town, but for the coast I like Bandol. Not sure if these types of areas interest you? I know some hotels in these areas if you interested but don’t know if they met all your criteria, but I can have a look.

Probably not looking at the coast.

Aix looks interesting, so I would be interested if we can find the right hotel.

Northern Bouches-du-Rhone is where we have stayed before, but we are not wedded to there specifically. But also not against staying in the same sort of area.

Off the top of my head these are nice hotels in Aix. Not sure if they met your requirements but worth a look.

They are all central.
Suppose you could consider Arles or Nîmes, both nice but I dont know hotels.

Obviously many go to the Luberon any many towns//villages around but maybe too small.

None of those suits unfortunately. But thanks for trying.

Hotel du Gordes in Gordes but likely to be mega bucks.

There must be something in Menerbes, Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Isle sur La Sorge. Have been on visit several times but not stayed.

There is a lovely B&B in Ilse Sur La Sorgue where the river runs under the hotel so you can seat your breakfast looking at it.

FabulosaTurquoise · 22/10/2024 23:26

I have looked at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, but couldn't find any hotels that fit our criteria.

I'll have a look at other places.

Menerbes and Bonnieux look a bit small (and I couldn't find any suitable rooms). Lourmarin looks a possibility, but the one room that I liked the look of seems to be booked up for the next couple of years!

Arles is worth trying.

FabulosaTurquoise · 23/10/2024 21:04

Funnily enough, I've been searching Arles this afternoon.

Not found anything ideal yet, but a couple of possible maybes.

Try splitting your time: Avignon might have what you're after. I stayed at hotel d'europe, I think it was.

It's not what you want at all but next door rooms at Domaine Les Roulettes could work for a couple of nights. Then you would drive to all the villages I mentioned above. That was one of the nicest places I have stayed!

FabulosaTurquoise · 24/10/2024 20:29

We're only going for a few days, so don't really want to keep moving about.

I suppose Avignon is a possibility, but I think we'd prefer somewhere a bit smaller (just not too small!)

Nicest hotel I have ever stayed in ( but I really don’t have the budget for luxury, and my grandfather was paying as it was for a family wedding) is Hotel Nord Pinus in Arles https://nord-pinus.com/en.
I see it is closed for renovations and re opens in 2025.

I am looking for a hotel in Provence for October. I haven’t been before and looking for somewhere with lots to see and do but not too aimed at tourists and built up. Boutique hotel with pool with lovely views is what I had in mind. Not a chain .

yeshimabet · 03/07/2025 10:23

not sure about budget but Hotel du Gordes is lovely.

Forgottenmyphone · 03/07/2025 10:57

Try Boutique Hotel Entraigues in Uzes.

bigfatdoormat · 03/07/2025 14:18

Vence or st remy ? But I don't know hotels we've always booked villas.

Wishimaywishimight · 03/07/2025 14:47

We stayed in the most adorable hotel, Hotel Gounod, in St Remy, quite quirky. Lovely town (although this was 8 or 9 years ago)

FabulosaTurquoise · 11/08/2025 21:27

Hotel Gounod has rooms only for a maximum of 2 people, so, I'm afraid not in the brief.
