Does anyone have any ideas for locations to pair with Annecy?

Still in France.

For July / August.

Not Dordogne.

Depends how long you want to drive.

Morzine or Les Gets are a short (under 2 hr) drive.

Provence is c 4-6 hrs depending on which bit

The Luberon is one of my favourite areas.

Pralognan La vanoise is a beautiful small village which is a great base for summer activities.

It depends what you want to do, what weather you want, sea, mountains or country, how you are travelling, what your budget is, what type of accommodation you want, adults only or with children etc etc. It's a big country and the possibilities are endless.

Côte d’Azur, especially Saint Cyr sur Mer

fruitypancake · 22/10/2024 22:01

Gorge du verdon maybe?

Gorge du verdon maybe?

This was my preference. Is Vallon Pont du Arc the best place to be located?

Camping. With kids. I know I can find camping anywhere. It's just somewhere within 2-3 hours of Annecy which is a different vibe. But still is driveable back to the Northern ports to drive back to the UK.

So South Coast / Corsica too far I think. But also I don't really want somewhere like the Loire as I think the weather can be a bit dodgy.

Budget not an issue really.

Not necessarily what you are after but we went to Paris for a few days after a week in annecy, stayed near DLP.

There are nice camp sites on lake Geneva just north of Nyon

Radiatorvalves · 23/10/2024 08:03

We like Embrun on the Lac de Serre Poncon. Similar to Annecy but less well known with Brits. 9 hours drive from Calais. DM me if you’d like to know more.

Ps Gorges de Verdon is amazing. We spent a few days in a huge campsite there a few years ago. Boys loved the foam party 😣 and aqua rando. We all did! You could do a week there and a week in the Durance valley.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 23/10/2024 08:34

Cote Sauvage. La Palmyre for a different vibe to Annecy and you're on your way up then to get home.

We did this last summer! Loved it.

Kids loved the surf vibes.

Do you camp or stay in a villa? Looks like a lovely spot and one for the list.

Go through Grenoble and down to the Verdon. Lac de Ste Croix has lots of watery based things for kids. Spectacular scenery, easy-ish drive and you can do a big loop to come back up the A7 through Aix and the Rhône valley, then either round Paris or via Reims to get to the North. Plenty of things to see and do en-route if you wanted to take your time.

stringbean · 23/10/2024 17:43

Gorges du Verdon and Vallon Pont d'Arc are not the same: Vallon Pont d'Arc is in the Ardeche which is about 3 hours from Annecy and would make a great base for a camping holiday. Gorges du Verdon is near Castellane - also great for camping but about 5 hours from Annecy.
