Majorca July - family of 5

Hi all, I booked flights for our family of five to Majorca in July to get a bit of a shock at the prices of hotels! We have three girls aged 12-19. I’m looking for a mix of luxury, views and fun for the youngest. I have currently held a basic apartment in Puerto Pollensa (4 nights), two nights in Hotel Soller (2 bed suite) and six nights in penthouse of Ponentmar Palma Nova. Could any of you mumsnetter Majorca experts advise me of any better ideas or hidden gems. The first nights are aimed at the baby of the house but I can’t find anywhere with slides etc in that area. Any better areas to try or family rooms that won’t cause my eyes to water! Thanking you!

I would have got a package with Jet2 at Ponentmar (or elsewhere in Palmanova) and hired a car. Would be loads cheaper.

I go to Majorca often. I'd just pick one base and go out each day. I don't even hire a car as the local buses are excellent.

I live in Pollensa and second that's it's easy to get around the island by car as it's not that big. You can get a bus from the port all the way to Palma too.

I don't like Palma Nova so can't comment there, but July in the Port is never going to be that cheap. I think the Pollensa Park is good for families - it's been there forever anywhere. There are also some good agro tourism places too.

Could I ask why you don’t like Palma Nova? This part is intended for the teens so a bit of life/tack nearby! but nice views for us. We have taken a penthouse apartment with private terrace etc here. Everything is fluid so absorbing all ideas and comments!

Puerto Pollensa is my favourite for families. Stayed at Hoposa Villaconcha. Was great location- just off the main street so nice and quiet at night (apart from the hotel entertainment which wasn’t too noisy). It has good pools with an inflatable course, easy location to walk to beach (5 mins).

A luxury villa with all sorts of amenities and private pool will be way more cost effective and flexible and less hassle than packing up and moving every few days for you all - there are thousands on Vrbo still available for next summer

It sounds like you are trying to give everyone a bit of the holiday that they will particularly like, but it's hard to have a bad time anywhere in Majorca. It really isn't all that big and as PP have said, moving accommodation with a party of 5 is a huge hassle.

From Puerto Pollensa it's a short drive or bus ride to Alcudia where there is a water park (Hidropark). But then from Palma Nova it's a very short bus or taxi ride to Western Water Park or Kathmandu in Magaluf.

As a minimum I would skip staying in (Puerto) Soller. You can go there on a day trip from Puerto Pollensa (bus or car on the mountain road one way, back on the motorway) or from Palma Nova (bus/car to Palma and then the old wooden train).

I agree with @samarrange. I’d also skip staying in soller. Nice for a day trip but (I can’t really explain why) I didn’t feel at ease there. To me it felt a bit small and perhaps unexciting. Lots of people love it tho.

Thank you all. You have helped me decide to cut out Soller. We will do 5 nights puerto pollensa in more budget place and seven in palma nova in the luxury apartment and travel between the rest. I appreciate the advice.

Could you recommend any agrotourisms as we do this in Cyprus and Italy a lot. Thanks :)

In my experience the agroturismos are more "turismo" than "agro". They may have been a farm once, but now they often don't have more than a medium-sized vegetable garden providing some of what's consumed in the restaurant. As that garden becomes smaller, the classification changes to "hotel rural".

In the latter category, Son Trobat https://maps.app.goo.gl/a4bLSHMXESaTVgXs5 is very nice indeed - huge rooms and cocktails are about €7. But it's somewhat in the middle of nowhere, so after a couple of nights you will need a designated driver to go out for dinner.
