50 minute layover at Changi - is that enough time to get to the next plane?

Panicking slightly, that 50 minutes isn't a lot of time, to get from one plane to the next one!

We arrive at Changi at 00.20 (no idea what terminal), and we depart from terminal 3 at 01.10

Seems tight! It's a through fare. Surely Singapore airlines wouldn't allow you to book something that wasn't feasible?

TIA

If you're booking through with the same airline then it must be doable, though that would make me very nervous and I'd want to speak to an airline agent about it. Changi is huge - we walked for about a mile last time we changed planes there.

Kitkat1523 · 19/10/2024 17:03

We had same layover of 50 mins…..it was ample time….we were with Singapore airlines too

Justploddingonandon · 19/10/2024 17:25

Not familiar with that airport but if it's a through fare they must think it's possible, and more importantly will be responsible and have to sort it ( usually by putting you on the next flight) if you miss the connection. Only thing I would be wary of is if the next flight was the next day,
I had this at a different airport, meant to have an hour to make the connection, same terminal and only a few gates apart. Fine until the first flight was 30 minutes late. I could actually see where I needed to be, but we were intercepted by airline staff and told we couldn't board. They did explain it was because while we could clearly make it half an hour wasn't enough time to find and transfer our luggage. Fortunately it was a very busy route and we only had to wait an hour for the next flight.

I've been through Changi this week, there are 4 terminals. Transit passengers don't go through immigration or security.

If both flights are with Singapore Airlines, I would not worry about it. They are very efficient & would not have booked you on the onward flight if it was not doable.

FakingItEasy · 19/10/2024 18:25

As above, it if booked on the same ticket (I.e. you haven't booked one flight, then booked another completely separately), you won't need to go through immigration, so providing your first flight is on time, you should be fine.

Carnationstreet7 · 19/10/2024 18:26

Agree, Changi is vast but it's very efficient

Clearinguptheclutter · 19/10/2024 18:27

If you can do it anywhere it will be at changi. It’s mega efficient.
if terminals are the same and it’s all Singapore airlines then hopefully all will be well. If you miss the connection they will put you in the next flight, but it might not be until the following day. They SHOULD provide a hotel in this case though.

ajandjjmum · 19/10/2024 18:45

Presumably your bags will be checked straight through on the first flight?

notimagain · 19/10/2024 19:16

Hopefully it’s a connected booking so you have protection if it doesn’t work out.

Timing is tight but as pps have said Changi is efficient.

Security screening was done at the gate last time I went through a while back, but judging by a pps comment it may have changed.

SageBlossomBunny · 19/10/2024 19:17

Awww changis my favourite airport.

We intentionally booked a longer time between flights so we could go exploring!

Kitkat1523 · 19/10/2024 19:33

It’s actually a shame you havent got a longer layover as it’s a lovely airport…..there’s a butterfly farm with amazing butterflies…..and a fantastic waterfall feature…….they have their own train system that takes you from one terminal to another when you have cleared security…..but for the 50min layover….we walked a couple less than 5 mins from plane to next boarding gate ….there will be lots of others doing the same OP …..enjoy your trip

I'm so glad I've found this thread! We have a 90 minute transfer in Singapore with Singapore airlines. I was going to phone them but now I feel a little less worried about it. Thank you!

90 mins is loads! 😂

If both flights are with the same airline and booked as the same ticket, then the airline must see the connection time as being feasible.

Saying that, BA think 75 mins connection time in LHR T5 is feasible - it possibly is if your first flight arrives on time and is able to go direct to its gate, and there are no queues in either immigration or security - otherwise you're under pressure and will no doubt turn up at your second flight a hot, sweaty mess with minutes to spare.

If it was me, I'd be seeing if there is a later departure, in say 2-4 hours time, this allowing you a relaxed connection and not having to worry about your first flight being delayed

SageBlossomBunny · 19/10/2024 20:37

Honestly 6 hours wasn't enough!!!

Jewelanemone · 19/10/2024 22:20

In the past we've had tight connections at Changi (due to flight from Heathrow leaving late). We told the flight crew who put a call through and we were met as we disembarked. The staff at the gate knew we were on the way and would've waited if we'd been late.

Changi airport and Singapore Airlines are brilliant. Flying through Changi with them again on Thursday. Enjoy your flight OP 😊

Jewelanemone · 19/10/2024 22:24

Sorry OP, meant to say if you let the flight crew know you're worried they'll probably call ahead for you 🙂
