Babymoon destination ideas

Hi all,

We want to plan a baby moon for December / early Jan when I’ll be around 4/4.5 months pregnant.

There’s lots of places on our bucket list but some are either not really suitable when pregnant, not the right time of year or places we think we’d be fine to travel to with a DC so we’d rather tick off somewhere that might be more difficult or less enjoyable with a DC while we have the chance!

Any suggestions or recommendations?

We are pretty open but to give an idea, here are some holidays we’ve loved recently:

  • Self-drive safari across Botswana
  • Travelling around Vietnam
  • Philippines (island hopping)

And here are some of the places on our bucket list:

  • Japan
  • Maldives
  • Banff and the rockies
  • Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Columbia

Would love to hear where you went or your dream baby moon destinations :)

I'd do Italy and eat all the carbs

Agree! Carbs and culture - what’s not to like?

TizerorFizz · 17/10/2024 23:31

We went to Italy at around 4 - 5 months. It was hard enough doing all the sightseeing. But worth it and obviously great food.

I would do long haul if didn’t involve lots of travel when there. We’ve been to Peru and there’s altitude to consider. We love Argentina but there’s internal flights there. Colombia - not sure! I like the BVIs. Relaxing, different islands to visit and wonderful sea and beaches. You could consider Nova Scotia. Around 5-6 hours, good medical system and lovely little towns and beaches and history. It’s a May-Sept destination and has plenty of hiking and outside activities. For all of this get the best health unsurance you can.

WTF is a 'baby moon'?

Surely you'd be wanting to rest and/or save some money for when baby is born? Crazy!

Surely holidays are for resting unless an adventure type trip?

Thank you! I found out about 6 weeks ago and haven’t had any morning sickness so I think I should be ok on that front but you’re right about an expedition probably not being doable! I think it needs to be something relaxing but we’d still like to feel like we’re seeing/experiencing somewhere new. I don’t mind a long flight but maybe I’ll feel differently as I get bigger!

Dubai

Popped on here to check for wanky comments criticising your use of 'babymoon' and I wasn't disappointed 🤣

OP I'd stick closer to home, long haul when pregnant can be uncomfortable. Italy definitely a good idea. Rome or Florence would be lovely

Unless the term has changed meaning in the past ten years or so, a babymoon isn’t a holiday you take before the baby is born, it’s when the couple spend time together just them and their baby after it’s born, before they allow visitors etc.

A holiday before the baby is born is a holiday before the baby is born.

🤣🤣🤣

My morning sickness started about 8weeks and I was sick (like day long hangover every day) till 20 weeks - i think this is quite late though. I had loads of energy then till about 32 weeks and then was pooped! I waited until my 20 week scan to be sure the pregnancy was okay and then went to Maderia.

Not necessarily recommending Maderia- I was fine was November- just giving a timeline example though appreciate everyone is different.

Foggytoppy · 17/10/2024 23:49

This was 20 years ago - we just called it last holiday before the baby. I'm old, I too wasn't too sure what a babymoon was- I thought it was first holiday with baby (that was Amsterdam at 5mths btw would recommend).

whiteboardking · 18/10/2024 00:12

I went lanzarote as I didn't want to be too far from home & good health care in case

No that isn’t what it means - you might have mistakenly assumed that because a honeymoon is after a wedding. Please google it before wrongly correcting me!

Honestly it’s not even a term I’d really use in real life, I just said it for simplicity to keep the thread title short! I thought it was common use, I had no idea it was so controversial 🙈

These are brilliant ideas, thanks so much! Never thought of BVIs or Novia Scotia so I’ll look into those.

It really isn't controversial, it's been in common use for ages - people on here just like being snarky about these things

Hope the pregnancy goes well 🙏

Honeymoon is a universally known, well established term.
Babymoon is something you’ve just made up, hence nobody knowing what you’re referring to.
HTH.

She didn’t make it up 😂 it’s been in common parlance for yonks, I’ve even had travel brochures that use the term!

Ideally you don’t want to fly more than around 5 hours while pregnant so I’d look at Jordan or Oman given the time of year, or maybe somewhere in the southern US if you can get a non-direct flight via NYC or something like that. I’m thinking you probably don’t want to do somewhere like Montreal in winter!
Or Bermuda or the Azores? The weather is a bit more of a mixed bag at that time of year though.

Since you love adventure but want something pregnancy-friendly, Japan could be a great option, amazing food, culture, and easy travel infrastructure. The Maldives would also be a dreamy, relaxing escape before the baby arrives!

I actually went to Argentina for my babymoon, and it was an incredible experience. We spent time in Buenos Aires enjoying the vibrant city life (and all the amazing food!), then headed to Patagonia for some breathtaking scenery, definitely more relaxed activities but still felt adventurous. We also did a guided tour through https://gowithguide.com/argentina/buenos-aires which made things super easy and stress-free. If Argentina is on your bucket list, I’d highly recommend it!
