Tips for long haul flight London to Singapore

Hello. Very excited and lucky to be visiting friends in Singapore in half term. It’s the first time the kids (DS13 and DD7) have flown long haul/anywhere over 4 hours and the first time I have for years and years! Any top tips for managing jet lag, or for the best hacks for comfy and smooth flight?! We are all so excited that I think seat back tvs and crisps will do a lot of the heavy lifting, but I’d love it if we could get a bit of sleep as we arrive at 11pm our time, 6.20am Singapore time! Do those neck pillows make any difference? What about the inflatable blocks you put your face in?! Sleep gummies? I hear good things about melatonin but can’t get it here. All advice welcome!

Singapore is very influenced by Aussie style I think. So flip flops/trainers0, nice cotton frock or shorts and top will take you most places. Wool/silk pashmina as mentioned above is super useful. Hat or UV umbrella (can buy anywhere). Consider UV rash vests for the pool as it's so easy to burn. And maybe pack them (your friends will advise) when going out to the zoo/science museum etc. as they have splash parks everywhere. People tend to flash their cash on bags and watches dress wise I would say. Insect repellent is as important as sun screen IMHO.
Uniqlo/Cotton On as well as lots of the usual mall brands (Zara etc.) will sort you out for basics if you are caught out.
Have an amazing time- fabulous place.

Thank you! I checked with my pal over there and she says they do but we’ll all be taking our own anyway and plenty of downloaded stuff in case for any horrifying reason the in flight entertainment isn’t working 😱. While you’re all here and sorry to be cheeky, for the experienced singaporers, what best to pack to look and be cool in all senses! Normally our hot holidays are in France camping and I don’t care what I look like, but I’d like to be have a bit less of a stained t shirt and baggy shorts vibe in glam Singapore!

I just wear what I would wear in the summer in the UK. There’s no need glam up, unless you want to. You might need a cardigan too because inside shops and offices the aircon is often at an Arctic setting. That might just be me though.

Umbrella rather than rain coat. We took raincoats in the summer and when it was showery were hot and sweaty and jealous of all the locals with umbrellas.
We mostly wore shorts or hareem type pants, t-shirts, trainers or cotton dresses and sandals.
Don’t worry if you forget something, there are so many malls you’ll be able to find whatever you need there.

No need to take any rainware. Plenty of places there to buy a cheap umbrella if you need one, then leave it in the hotel when you leave. Someone will be glad of it.
