All inclusive within trip distance of Pompeii / Herculaneum

Does such a thing exist? I can't find one.

I know people will come along and tell me that's not the point of Italy etc etc but my anxiety really struggles with not knowing our set budget for a holiday and having it all covered by AI makes things much nicer for us. But we all really want to go to Pompeii and Herculaneum next year.

Many thanks!

I’ve vaguely looked into AI in Italy and concluded it doesn’t really exist
would full board be doable? Plenty of options in that case

AnnaMagnani · 13/10/2024 11:22

All inclusive is not really an Italian thing. Why would you create hotels with giant buffets in a country that is rightly so proud of its food?

TwigTheWonderKid · 13/10/2024 11:27

Yeah, you'll really struggle to find AI but you might find a hotel which does Full board?

Kenclucky · 13/10/2024 11:47

Full board would be better than nothing. Dh really likes a drink on hol and it creates arguments if he's spending a fortune on top that we haven't budgeted for - just more pleasant to have it included.

Yes thank you I know this is the prevalent view. As I've said there's a particular reason why I'm trying to find this though if it exists anywhere at all.

I'd start asking your dh how he's planning to cover the separate cost of his drinking habit on holiday with you all.

Can't help remembering that my Mum had regular migraines from stress, and once my Dad finally left her along with his trail of financial chaos she never had a migraine again.

Why not speak to a travel agent?
Make sure you visit the museum in Naples, because that is where the vast majority of the frescoes and artifacts actually are. I wrongly assumed I'd see them within Pompeii itself.

To add, we stayed in Naples, but it was a BnB, not all inclusive. We caught the local train from there to both Pompeii and Herculaneum. Very easy and much cheaper than packaged tours.

Maybe self catering would suit you better, that's what me and my alcoholic exhusband used to do so the alcohol was supermarket prices. I got sick of being embarrassed by him in all inclusives. Getting hammered at breakfast and falling asleep everywhere. Urgh

Hi OP, we stayed here a few years ago and went to Herculaneum. Very easy to get to on the train.
Atlantic Palace Sorrento
the all inclusive was fabulous - in the evening buffet style appetisers, then the rest of the meal is waiter service. Drinks are all good quality, eg Peroni, proper cocktails, decent wine.

That looks absolutely perfect but only takes 16+ and our youngest is 11 - gutted!

Hotel Parc del sole in St Agnello does AI. St Agnello is one stop on the train out of Sorrento . Jet2 have holidays available there and also Tui (I think)

SunshineAndCloudy · 13/10/2024 15:50

We’ve just come back from sorrento
half board. A little village by us had a few cafes and bars and we never spent more than seven euro, usually 5 on a big pizza. Even in sorrento town you wouldn’t pay more than 15-20. You can get the train to Pompeii from there. Drinks were same price as here. If you did all inclusive or full board you would be by the pool all day ‘getting your moneys worth’ when you need be out exploring sorrento and coast walks and Pompeii so you would end up spending more! You don’t go there to sit in the hotel all day.

Tetchypants · 13/10/2024 15:59

Yeah not the right country for that sort of holiday, total opposite of Italian culture and how they eat and drink socially. Maybe just go for a long weekend instead.

SparkyBlue · 13/10/2024 16:08

Could you do a cruise? We went to Pompeii on a day trip while on a cruise

Full board wouldn't work. Unless the hotel food is amazing and to your taste, you'll miss out on the food experiences of wandering around and sitting in pavement cafes etc. Plus you'll be paying hotel prices for DHs alcohol.

I agree that a self catering short break where DH can buy his booze in a supermarket is the way to tackle this.

I didn't find eating out and drinks in Rome expensive though. Beer and wine was around UK prices I think as was pizza and pasta. That was in a nice restaurant chosen randomly in a side street.
